About Penally Abbey
Penally Abbey is a Gothic-style country house set in woodland and gardens on the edge of the village of Penally, about a mile and a half from Tenby. Despite the name it was never an abbey, though the ruined chapel in the grounds is genuinely medieval. The Boissevain family took it on some years ago and reworked the interiors, and it is still run by them, which shows in the informal, personal way the place operates.
There are twelve bedrooms split between the main house and a converted coach house. Sizes and outlooks vary quite a lot: the seafront superior rooms in the house have the best views over Carmarthen Bay towards Caldey Island, while the coach house rooms are quieter and better suited to guests bringing dogs. Decoration is a mix of bold colours, antique furniture and modern bathrooms, with a fair amount of character rather than a uniform look. A continental breakfast is included and a cooked breakfast can be added.
Rhosyn Restaurant serves dinner by candlelight and is open to non-residents, with a short menu built around Welsh produce and local seafood. Afternoon tea is served in the drawing room or the garden. Public rooms include a comfortable lounge with an open fire and a small bar. There is no spa or pool; the appeal is the quiet setting and the view.
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is about ten minutes' walk away, and the long sands of South Beach run from Penally into Tenby, so you can walk into town along the shore at low tide. Tenby's harbour, walled old town and boat trips are the obvious outings, with Manorbier Castle, Barafundle Bay and Stackpole a short drive west. It suits couples, walkers and dog owners more than families with young children.

What guests say
Stunning meal in the Rhosyn restaurant, 10/10! Lovely salmon to start with, sublime salt bass for main with a strawberry parfait with strawberry and elderflower sorbet for pudding. Fantastic service, and afterwards had a wee walk around their incredible gardens. Would definitely recommend visiting!

A very special experience. Superb cocktail to start, and the three course meal was heavenly. I enjoyed the experience of cheese icecream, also the artichoke puree was to die for, the steak was done to perfection... and the rhubarb!! All followed by a glass of champagne. The setting is stunning as is the decor. We're really looking forward to our next visit.
