About The Brackenrigg Inn

Pitched in a meadow behind a modern lakeside pub, The Brackenrigg Inn's pop-up site gives campers prime access to Ullswater's western shore and the surrounding fells. The 26-50 non-electric grass pitches can be a bit uneven underfoot, but the trade-off is those expansive lake views and the convenience of having phenomenal pies, generous Sunday roasts, and other pub classics just steps from your tent. Staff earn consistent praise for their friendliness, and the cozy atmosphere makes it easy to linger over a pint after a day on the trails.

Though breakfast can feel a little basic, the location more than compensates. Little Mell Fell is five minutes by car for a straightforward climb, while Gowbarrow offers more challenge and easy access to Aira Force's dramatic 65-foot cascade. Wild swimming, kayaking, and sailing are all within reach, and the pub welcomes dogs year-round—ideal for walkers seeking a Cumbrian base with built-in comforts.

I stayed here last weekend with a group of friends and we had the most amazing time. The rooms were all immaculate and beautifully decorated. The pub itself is so lovely and the food was delicious, especially the fish and chips! All of the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Big shout out to Oscar that helped us with everything during our stay - thank you! I'll definitely be back, great location, great beers, great food and AMAZING hospitality! :)

I have eaten at this pub for a few years now when visiting the lakes, always incredibly friendly staff and good atmosphere! I normally travel alone but never feel like it when im here, James and the team make it feel very homely! Stayed at the Brackenrigg for the first time and i dont think i will stay anywhere else now that ive found it. Lovely cooked breakfast and good choice of drinks for the afternoon/evening! Comfy rooms too! Value for money was unbeatable. I cannot wait to return!

A busy place, my online booking was lost, but helpful staff found us a table. Decent beers etc, the roast was a bit mean with the beef, was it one or two slices? Great views along Ullswater from seating outside

We stayed just one night at the Brackenrigg Inn but we can’t wait to come back. Fantastic welcoming staff, we enjoyed some drinks in the bar and a light lunch before they allowed us to the room early. We felt relaxed as soon as we got here! We then walked down to Another hotel on the lake (part of the same group) and the hotel is stunning. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine and the staff were great, we then enjoyed a swim, really great to be able to use the facilties. We then enjoyed dinner in the Brackenrigg inn. It was Pie night and we had the pie of the week (butter chicken) and a veggie cheese and onion, both absolutely phenomenal. After a great night sleep we headed down for breakfast, one of the best we have had. Such an enjoyable place to be, the attention to detail makes this place really relaxed and special. Great views of the lake too!
