Came here for food as we were staying in just down the road and it was a proper traditional pub, really authentic decor and great little beer garden. Menu offers proper traditional pub grub and loads of gluten free options. We had the steak with veg and peppercorn sauce. Steak was cooked perfectly as asked (medium rare) and instead of chips my partner asked for veg and a good selection was provided. However, the peppercorn sauce was super watery. I had the lamb and mint burger with home cooked chips which was very tasty and very filling. The mint and yogurt sauce that came on the side was delicious. I also had sticky toffee pudding with custard which was very moist and a very large portion. Really great value for money. We had a lovely young girl serve us, she was very attentive and very helpful. Overall, lush little meal. I would definitely recommend this place!

Called in for a late afternoon meal and were certainly not disappointed. I heard great things about the pies and they were indeed superb, lots of tasty steak filling, great chips and a rich delicious gravy. The menu was varies and reasonably priced, sadly too full for dessert. Very welcoming staff, proper rustic feel

Absolutely delicious roast dinner — everything was cooked perfectly. The meat was tender and full of flavor, the roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, and the vegetables were fresh and well-seasoned. The gravy tied it all together beautifully. Great portion sizes, friendly service, and a lovely atmosphere too. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a proper, satisfying roast!

We stayed at nearby Motherby for a week and visited The Herdwick most nights. A brilliant village pub, great atmosphere, incredible pub food and good beers. A highlight of our trip. The pies are amazing!! We were put off by some of the negative reviews before we visited but they couldn’t be more wrong - an absolute hidden gem!
