About Westmorland Hotel Tebay
Right beside the M6 at Penrith, the Westmorland Hotel Tebay proves that a motorway address needn't mean motorway noise. Across its 51 rooms, guests find comfortable, well-kept spaces with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and free WiFi, and the setting is calmer than its location suggests, making it a genuine rest stop rather than just a convenient one.
The restaurant is a strong point, with a well-regarded breakfast and thoughtful vegetarian choices, alongside a bar, snack bar, room service and packed lunches for onward journeys. Families are catered for with kids' meals and family rooms, while dog owners are given a proper welcome, including bowls and treats for four-legged guests. Meeting rooms and business services suit those breaking up a work trip, and there's a garden and outdoor seating for stretching your legs.
Staff are consistently described as helpful, and free on-site parking with an electric vehicle charge point makes it an easy stop for drivers. Penrith and the wider Cumbrian countryside are close by, with walking and cycling routes nearby and the Lake District within easy reach, making this as much a base for exploring as a place to break a long drive.

What guests say
We stopped here en route to the west coast of Scotland. Our expectations were exceeded with the dog friendly room being spotlessly clean, so comfortable and quiet despite the proximity to the M6. The breakfast in the morning was superb, eaten overlooking the water and the gardens, the perfect relaxing start before a long drive north. Thank you

Nice rooms and very quiet. Breakfast was very good. Staff very helpful. No lift to some upper rooms so difficult to bring bags up to the room. Providing hand/body lotion would have been nice.

Stayed here twice, once on our way up to Scotland and then on the way back. TLDR - likely not worth the money, unless you are given a decent room. First stay they seemed to give us a much nicer room (I think hotels tend to do that to get you back). The mattress was really nice and everything in the room worked, it was a good size too. On our trip back the room was smaller, the mattress was really terrible (I honestly thought it was just a cheap ikea one). The mattress was so soft at the edges I kept falling off the bed, but more solid towards the centre, probably a sign it’s beyond end of life and needed replacing. The sink didn’t drain properly. They also couldn’t work out if they could just make me a plain cheese sandwich, which seems a bit odd given all they had to do was not put the relish in it. I didn’t realise about the mattress until I actually got into bed. They have removed the phones from the room we had so I was faced with either getting dressed, walking to reception and dealing with it all then or just putting up. I wouldn’t stay again, especially considering the high cost and lack of decent mattresses. A shame really as I thought I’d found a decent hotel based on our first experience.

Great location. Rooms comfortable but in need of refurb (especially bathroom). Breakfast great. Drink at the bar very expensive. Overall good experience but you could stay in a premiere Inn for a lot less .
