About Meonside Camping

Green hills, a gently sloping valley, a chalk-bed river and some friendly local cows – if you fancy waking up to views like these on your next trip, make tracks for Meonside Camping, a Hampshire site 10 minutes' drive from Petersfield. This working farm keeps things refreshingly back-to-basics, with non-electric grass pitches, portable toilets, a washing-up area, drinking water and a communal firepit – perfect for campers who prefer a proper outdoor experience to resort-style facilities.

The location is a walker's dream: you're a 15-minute stroll from the South Downs Way and right next to the East Hampshire AONB cycle route. Queen Elizabeth Country Park and Beacon Hill Nature Reserve are both 20 minutes away by car. Numbers are kept deliberately low to preserve the peace, and you can order barbecue meat packs to be delivered on the night if you fancy cooking over coals. For those preferring a night off from meal prep, East Meon village – another 15-minute walk – has a couple of welcoming local pubs.

We found it a really lovely campsite yes basic but we loved being in middle of nature have made several visits, there are wonderful walks to take just a relaxing place you can switch off as you drive through gates the owner came round numerous times cleaning the toilets and checking everyone was fine. The only disappointment was campers left bags of rubbish behind rather then to take with them to dispose of, see you next year.

As a cyclist on the Southdown's way I would not recommend, it was very busy with large groups. We ended up sandwiched between a group of father's playing loud music and a motocross group enjoying a loud murder mystery - all until late. Services very basic but clean - although plastic portable toilet will always smell in summer heat.

My husband and I stopped off here whilst walking the south downs way. Its a little bit off the trail requires half a miles detour but is a good location nonetheless. The campsite itself is very basic, it's a field with a tap and some portaloos. However the site manager is very friendly and it's reasonably priced. The campsite is on a fairly busy road so I would recommend pitching up on the far side. The village of East Meon is 15 minutes walk away and has two nice pubs.

What a great Campsite! Basic, but what else do you need. Plenty of portaloos on site that get cleaned/refreshed regularly, always toilet roll. Fresh drinking water tap and sink provided. Location excellent, being only a 10/15 min walk to local shop and 2 pubs. Farm who runs the site is friendly and chatting and comes round regularly with wood to buy for camp fires. Very reasonably priced. Had an absolutely brilliant weekend. Thank you Meonside Camping Team.
