Camping in Pilling

Inland, Pilling Moss is drained farmland criss-crossed by ditches and drainage channels, attractive to walk but not somewhere to pitch a tent off-grid.

Established touring parks in the area, including sites around Cockerham just south of Pilling, offer level hardstanding pitches with electric hook-ups, and make a good base for cycling the flat lanes of the Fylde or walking sections of the Lancashire Coastal Way. Facilities are generally geared towards caravans and motorhomes with a smaller allocation for tents, so it is worth booking ahead, particularly in peak summer weeks.

Spring through early autumn is the most comfortable window for camping here, when the ground is drier and the long evenings suit the exposed, big-sky setting; this low, flat coast catches whatever wind is blowing off the bay, so a sturdy tent and warm kit are worth bringing even in summer. For those who prefer not to pitch their own tent, a handful of glamping options in the wider Pilling and Wyre area offer bell tents and camping pods as a more sheltered alternative, combining the same marshland and estuary views with a bit more comfort.
