About The Inn on the Tay

A compact, six-room inn rather than a sprawling hotel, The Inn on the Tay makes the most of its riverside spot in Grandtully, near Pitlochry. The scale keeps things personal, with an emphasis on comfort over corridors of identical rooms, and the setting on the Tay gives many of them a proper outlook over the water.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, and are consistently described as spacious and immaculately kept, with a cosy feel that suits the surrounding scenery. Family rooms are available, and extras like room service, drinks in the room and a packed lunch for the day ahead are all on offer. The restaurant and bar are a focus of the place, serving locally sourced dishes such as steak and haggis pie, venison haunch, and fish and chips, in an atmosphere that guests find warm and welcoming, helped along by staff who are consistently described as attentive and professional. There's also a garden with outdoor seating for fine days, free WiFi throughout, and 24 hour reception.

The inn sits within easy reach of golf, fishing, cycling and walking country, with horse riding and watersports also nearby, plus other pubs and restaurants close by for anyone wanting a change of scene. Free on-site parking and a pets-welcome policy make it a straightforward base for exploring Perthshire.

This was by far the nicest place we stayed travelling around the highlands. Our dog friendly room looked onto the River Tay and we could watch Kayakers tackling the river. Staff very attentive, food was a level above what we'd experience in more expensive hotels, finally got fruit at breakfast! Lovely walks and views all around.

Shaun was pretty easy to confuse for an owner, he was putting so much effort into the service even explaining the reasons why things may have gone slightly wrong (which was barely the case) and asking the kitchen. Great guy but also the food was incredible and fair for the price. Chefs put much attention to detail, especially in dishes like the pannacotta. It had daily changing soups, pies and fish which are delicious (although I wouldn't know about the fish I didn't have that). The Food was so good I was left scraping sauce of the plates and lickong the knives when I was done. Occasionally they show live music and of course the location on the Tay is quite nice. Tldr: yummy, nice, go get some.

Had lunch there. Good was very good and the location is terrific, right on the rapids at Grantully, however, what made this a special outing was the service. The 2 ladies who served us were fantastic and made the day very memorable. Lovely surroundings as well, very nicely done, lovely atmosphere and welcomed our dog in as well.

I had an outstanding meal at the Inn on the Tay that genuinely exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, the kind of place that immediately puts you at ease. We ordered the Steak & Haggis Pie, and it was exceptional rich, deeply flavoured, and beautifully cooked, with that perfect balance of comfort and craft. The Bread & Butter pudding that followed was just as impressive, nostalgic, warming, and executed with real care. What really sets the Inn on the Tay apart, though, is the service. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful without ever feeling intrusive. It elevated the whole experience from a good meal to a memorable one. A fabulous visit from start to finish. We arrived expecting a nice pub dinner and left having had a fine dining experiance. Highly recommended.
