A 12-room inn on Mill Lane in Pitlochry, with spotless en-suite rooms above a lively restaurant and bar known for its lamb steak and pork belly.

About The Old Mill Inn

Rooms at The Old Mill Inn are kept spotlessly clean, each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and free WiFi, and there's the option of drinks brought straight to your room. With only 12 rooms in total, the place has a small, well-kept feel rather than the anonymity of a big hotel, and the comfortable public areas make it easy to settle in after a day out in Pitlochry.

Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, drawing a steady crowd for dishes such as lamb steak, pork belly and sticky toffee pudding, served up in a cosy, sociable atmosphere that often includes live music. Staff are attentive and the pace is lively rather than quiet, so it suits guests who enjoy a bit of buzz with their dinner. Breakfast is included, and there's a snack bar, garden and outdoor seating for slower moments, plus laundry service, luggage storage and free on-site parking for practical needs.

The inn also handles meetings and weddings, with meeting rooms and concierge services on hand. Outside, Pitlochry itself is right on the doorstep, with golf, fishing, horse riding, watersports and walking all nearby, along with further pubs and restaurants for those who fancy exploring beyond the Mill Lane address.

A charming base for exploring Pitlochry, let down by a few fixable issues that matter when you're trying to actually sleep. The good stuff first. Location is hard to beat — steps from the high street, everything walkable. The room itself was a winner: an end room with three windows giving it a bright, airy feel you don't always get in older Scottish inns. Staff throughout were genuinely warm and attentive, which makes a real difference. The bar area has that proper cozy Scottish pub feel with plenty of spots to settle in, indoors or out. Breakfast deserves a special mention. I tried Eggs Benedict for the first time here — and that's a high bar to debut on. The hollandaise was silky and well-balanced, the back bacon generously portioned. A proper start to the day. Where it falls short. The mattress needs replacing. A noticeable bulge in the middle left me sleeping on a slope all night — that's not a minor quibble, it affects everything. At 3am, lying at the bottom of that slope, I could hear every creak from the room above as someone made their way to the bathroom, the flush of the toilet, then the creaks back to bed. The whole building carries sound. The smoking area right at the entrance is a genuine problem. Open your front window and you're breathing it in; walk in or out and you pass through a cloud of it. Strange blind spot for a property that otherwise makes an effort. Shower pressure was weak — a drizzle rather than a shower. Worth knowing if that matters to you. The terrace closes at 10:30pm — but that only means the service stops, not the guests. Voices carry directly into the rooms above. Light sleepers, ask for a room on the other side of the building. On the plus side, the blackout blinds do their job — mostly. Scottish summer means light at 3am, and the blinds keep the room dark save for a little glow around the edges. Small mercy when sleep is already hard to come by. Bottom line: Real charm here, and the staff alone would bring me back. Sort the mattress and the smoking policy and this becomes a 5-star stay easily.

Stayed here 2 days ago for the first time. Received a warm welcome on a cold wintry wet day place was warm and staff friendly and smartly dressed. Room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Bar area was comfortable and relaxing. Had a meal which was tasty piping hot good sized portion and nicely presented although I felt menu was a bit pricey. Breakfast cooked to order was tasty. Service was excellent. What was evident that all staff could undertake all tasks whereby we did not have to wait any length of time to be served regardless of how busy it was.. had most enjoyable stay would highly recommend.

I've walked past this establishment many times, and finally decided to give it a try for a light lunch. Prices were on the high side, but I hoped that would be balanced by the quality of the food. Sadly this was not the case. At £16 - £18 for a sandwich, and £6 for fries, you'd expect something special, but portions were small, and the food unremarkable. Service was fast, but so fast that I felt we were being rushed out... until we asked for the bill, which hadn't arrived after 10 minutes, so we had to go to the till to pay. There are far better places to eat in Pitlochry, so I won't be back here.

A must-visit in Pitlochry! My partner and I have made it a tradition to meet friends here for a meal before heading to the Enchanted Forest, and it never fails to impress. The vibe is always lively and cosy. The food is superb - top-tier Scottish pub classics that always hit the spot. It's located right in the centre of town next to a beautiful, picturesque stream. Just a heads-up: they don’t take table bookings for the restaurant (only for hotel guests), so get there early or you might be turned away during busy spells!
