The Spinney Wild Camping unfolds across nine acres of East Yorkshire oak woodland and open meadow, where you choose your own pitch – either tucked beneath the trees or out on the mown field. It's a properly off-grid experience (torches essential after dark), with running water, a simple compost toilet and pot-washing facilities keeping things functional but minimal. What lifts this laid-back spot above basic wild camping are the thoughtful extras: a cosy garden room with sofa, blankets and games for rainy evenings, plus a hot tub you can hire for stargazing sessions with a drink in hand.
Dogs on leads and free-range children are both welcome to roam, and Allerthorpe's watersports and woodland walks lie just five minutes away. Firepits are available to hire for barbecuing (you're not allowed your own), though local country pubs offer an easy alternative. The site can feel decidedly rustic without electricity or hot water, but if you're after a back-to-basics retreat with a few creature comforts, it strikes a nice balance.

A simple but magnificent place to pitch your tent, to enjoy time away from the urban bustle. Basic but quality facilities, perfectly fitting the respect-to-nature ethos. Very friendly and relaxed owner to assist you in finding your perfect spot! We only stayed one night, but we'll be back again!
