About Heights Hotel

The Jurassic Coast is within easy driving distance of Heights Hotel, making it a practical base for exploring Portland's cliffs and coastal paths, along with nearby pubs, restaurants and fishing spots for those who fancy a slower day out. Entertainment and eateries are close by too, so there's no shortage of options once you're back from the coast.

The hotel itself has 66 rooms, including family and accessible options, all with en-suite bathrooms and free WiFi. Rooms come with drinks available, and the property offers breakfast, packed lunches and kids' meals for those heading out early or staying in. A gym, garden, picnic area and outdoor seating add to the facilities, and free on-site parking with an electric vehicle charge point makes arriving by car straightforward.

The restaurant and bar are known for wide views out over the surrounding area, and service includes a robot server alongside the usual staff, who are consistently described as friendly. Service can be slow at busier times, so it's worth allowing extra time for meals. Laundry service and luggage storage round out the practical offering for longer stays.

We had a wonderful one‑night stay at the Heights Hotel in Portland, Dorset. My husband, my parents and I were delighted to receive an upgrade, and both rooms were spacious with extremely comfortable beds — we all slept so well. Our evening meal in the restaurant was a highlight. The panoramic views were absolutely breathtaking, and the food and service were genuinely 5‑star. Every member of staff we met was friendly, attentive and professional. I also treated myself to a cocktail - thank you, Harry! Overall, a fantastic visit from start to finish. We’re planning to return very soon and highly recommend the hotel.

Great location but there are issues. The rooms have no air con and are not that quiet at night. Breakfast is good with adequate choices and a great view. Staff were helpful.

We went for a carvery today for my daughter's birthday, there was 13 of us, included in that was 5 children and 3 of those children were youngish children!!! When we arrived it wasn't too bad and we were shown to our table etc, which wasn't too bad. One of our party is pregnant and it was extremely hot where we were, she asked for the window to be open and it was refused because apparently it didn't open, it did open because someone opened it for her!!! Once the main course came out, the food was lovely, there was no complaints about the food, but then we must have sat for at least half an hour if not more for someone to come and clear the table and ask if we wanted the dessert menu, they brought the menu to us and yet again we waited, with young children, who wanted their dessert. It took someone asking the waitress to come over to take our order to get some attention, it then took at least another 20 to 30 minutes to make those desserts, it wasn't even busy in there, with children getting very fidgety it was starting to get a bit annoying. The desserts eventually turned up, they were lovely, just took a long time to arrive. My partner has forces discount, which we have used before when we went to the heights, so when we went to pay the bill, I was told that it would only be taken from his bill, no one else's 🤔🤔🤔, bit confusing because they had taken it from everything last time!! He spoke to the manager and we asked if they had taken the deposit odd the bill and the answer was NO that had to be refunded back to what ot had been paid with!!! I was fuming!!!! I got the refunded on my cards, then came home to search defence discount only to find that discount can be "USED BY THE CARD HOLDER FOR PAYMENT OF THE WHOLE BILL" as long as they are paying the bill!!! THE SERVICE TODAY WAS DISGRACEFUL AND WE WONT BE RETURNING. HAVE TO WAIT NOW FOR £120 OF REFUND TO BE REFUNDED. AVOID WITH A VENGEANCE

Don't have much luck in this hotel. Went there for a meal, asked the person behind the bar, when he finally appeared, if they were doing food which he replied that they were but weren't doing walk ins. Would understand if they were busy but we were literally the only ones in there. Probably won't go back as this isn't the first time this has happened. I think if they are going to do this please put a sign on the front door so we don't have to walk all the way up to the bar
