About Meadowbank Guest House
Meadowbank Guest House has the feel of a traditional Highland home, with a character all its own and rooms furnished in a classic, comfortable style rather than anything glossy or modern. Several rooms look out over the water, and all come with en-suite bathrooms and free Wi-Fi, while a sunroom gives guests a bright spot to sit with a drink and take in the view whatever the weather is doing outside.
Mornings start with breakfast, and packed lunches can be arranged for days spent out exploring, with drinks available in the room for quieter evenings in. Outside there's a garden and outdoor seating, free on-site parking, and reception is staffed around the clock.
Portree itself is close at hand for pubs, restaurants and other eateries, and the surrounding area offers walking routes, fishing, horse riding and watersports, making Meadowbank a straightforward, laid-back base for getting out into Skye's landscapes.
What guests say
We booked quite last minute for a few days over Hogmanay and we thought the prices were very reasonable for this time of year, especially compared to other places. My room was lovely - very clean and spacious, with a fantastic view over the back garden and the bay. There was also a lounge available for guest use and a dining area, so we had access to a table. The bed was comfortable, with a good mattress and the curtains really kept the light out. The room and lounge were very warm and cosy and we were able to reduce the heat from the radiators as it suited us. Although breakfast is not served, we had tea and coffee-making facilities in the rooms. There were pre-packaged croissants, biscuits and porridge pots available for use as well. Some of these options were gluten-free, which was great for me. There was also a fridge available for guest use, which made a big difference in terms of being able to have fresh milk and food available for making picnics and snacks. I would recommend bringing a miniature bottle of washing-up liquid as you could wash cutlery and your mugs etc in the sink in your room. The area is very quiet and yet it is only a 5-10min walk from Portree town centre (we had a lovely cooked breakfast in the Royal Hotel one morning where the lady was kind enough to let me use my basic Gaelic on her). The lane to access Meadowbank means that the house is away from the traffic noise on the main road. The owner is very friendly and helpful - this was especially appreciated when our car broke down on Hogmanay and we found ourselves stranded for an extra two days. Also when my son left his old phone and they posted it back to us! Definitely recommend and would return.

Our 4 day stay at Meadowbank was enjoyable despite some shortcomings. While we saw that breakfast wasn't offered (which is ironic in a B+B) we were expecting to be able to use the kitchen but it wasn't available for guests. Besides this the rooms were comfortable and it's only a short walk from everything in Portree

For starters, all the rave reviews must have been written by the owners. Our stay there was absolutely horrendous. I could touch the ceiling with my fingers. Only a 2 hour water view due to the tide. Dead plants everywhere. The “carpet “ is the material that is put down BEFORE you lay the actual carpet 🙄 You could barely turn around in the bathroom. Using the toilet, your feet touched the wall. All personal items had to be placed on the window sill. The shower was water tank attached to the wall and went from scalding to ice cold. 5 seconds to rinse in between the temperature change. Children’s bedroom furniture!! The mini table was nicely covered with kitchen drawer liner. $US 150 per night. Outrageous. We went to a beautiful hotel after the disaster and spent the same with a lovely breakfast included. Definitely a 4 star hotel Don’t even think about going to this rip off place. Total scam. Meadow Bank House. Is there a rating less than zero?

We enjoyed our stay here, ideal for the town etc. We had a couple of minor issues which were quickly resolved with the owners. Dining room can be used for eating in and which has a fridge but apart from kettle in the room no cooking facilities.
