About Keppels Head Hotel
Keppels Head Hotel occupies a period building on The Hard in Portsmouth, its traditional character giving the place a solid, old-fashioned feel rather than anything corporate or modern. The setting puts it right in the thick of the harbour area, within easy reach of the city's main attractions.
Rooms are en-suite and come well-equipped, with family and accessible options available alongside the standard doubles; some are on the compact side, so those wanting extra space might ask when booking. Guests have use of a lift, free WiFi, and drinks available in the room, while the restaurant and bar downstairs turn out a solid breakfast and dinner. Packed lunches can be arranged for those heading out for the day, and there are meeting rooms and concierge services for anyone travelling on business.
Free on-site parking is a genuine convenience in a city where that is not always easy to come by. Beyond the hotel doors there is plenty to fill the time, from cycling and walking routes to watersports, fishing and golf nearby, plus a good spread of pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance. Staff are consistently helpful, and the location alone makes it a practical base for exploring Portsmouth's harbourside.

What guests say
Rooms are very bog standard but get the job done and are clean. Staff were very helpful and dealt with any problems we had instantly. The main draw is the incredibly good location of the hotel. The sea views rooms are great, and you are a directly Infront of the historic dockyard, and a short walk from the major shopping outlet. Also a nice touch was the love.of the hotels history shown everywhere.

Stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend. Easy to get to with limited free and relatively secure parking available, however this can get quite hard to park in if its nearly full! Location is great with it being so central to the historic dock yards. No doubt the view was better in previous years but there is a modern bus station, taxi rank and train links opposite the hotel which makes for great connectivity but spoils the view of the harbour. The room we stayed in was the victory suite (possibly booked as the superior room). Room was really big and had a lovely bay window. We decided to move the sofa to a different angle to face the HMS warrior which gave us a far better view than the more direct one of the bus station... The taps in the room seemed to not be capable of generating any cold water which was frustrating for drinking water purposes, at best they became lukewarm other than when the water cooled down in the pipes overnight. Hopefully this is just a plumbing issue. Breakfast is ok but nothing special, a reasonable cooked breakfast is available but I prefer a continental hotel style breakfast buffet. 3/5 stars overall but perhaps a 4/5 if your closer to bus pass age!

Very easy to find hotel, right across from the newly refurbished coach station and on the main street opposite the port, a great spot if you want to be as central as can be to all local amenities. The main dining room is nice and the pub-like lounge is charming, if not quieter than you'd expect, but it has a good bar and you can eat from the main menu in a much comfier setting, which is very welcome compared to the more formal dining area opposite the reception. The food served is varied, well-proportioned and generally quite tasty, though a little overpriced, but the service is friendly and accommodating. The rooms are quite reasonable, albeit very stuffy if you don't open the windows (that oddly, don't have locks on them) but the AC is good and standard storage offerings are again reasonable. Overall, Keppel's is good for a short stay, in a great location, and at a reasonable budget, not much more you can ask for.

Way better than a 3 Star Hotel. The room was spacious, clean, well stocked with tea coffee bottled water, large bathroom, TV and AIR-CON!! Full English breakfast included in our rate. Within walking distance of the Historic Centre and free parking. Dozens of eateries nearby. We would have eaten in the Hotel but the diner is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
