About Premier Inn Portsmouth Dockyard
Queen Street sits right in the thick of Portsmouth's maritime quarter, close to the Historic Dockyard and within easy reach of the ferry links across to the Isle of Wight, which makes Premier Inn Portsmouth Dockyard a handy base for exploring the naval landmarks and waterfront that define this part of the city. Gunwharf Quays is also nearby, adding shops and eating options to the mix.
The hotel has 120 rooms spread across six floors, each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and free WiFi, and there are accessible rooms available too. A lift serves all floors, and reception operates around the clock. On site there's a restaurant and bar for meals and drinks, plus a proper breakfast in the morning that guests have consistently rated as a highlight - varied and well worth getting up for. Housekeeping standards are generally solid, though a few stays have flagged inconsistencies worth being aware of.
Beyond the hotel, the local area offers fishing, watersports and entertainment nearby, along with a good spread of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Parking isn't on site, but chargeable parking can be found nearby. It's a practical, well-placed choice for anyone visiting Portsmouth's dockyard sights.
What guests say
I like this hotel and have stayed many times now as I visit Portsmouth a couple of times a year. The plus points are that the location of the hotel is fantastic. Close to Dockyard and also 5minutes walk from Gunwharf Quays Shopping outlet. The reception staff are polite and friendly. The very big downside is the housekeeping and cleaning staff seem to be lacking for years. Annoyingly you have to notify reception by midday if you want your room serviced, unlike other hotels I've stayed in where you just put the 'please clean my room' sign on your door handle. Over and over again after requesting a room service you come back to your room and the basics are not done. Bins not emptied and toilet paper not refilled. It has been this way every time I've visited and is the only downside I have experienced at this hotel. Primer Inn, please live up to your name and give a Premier service and you will get a five star review.

We recently stayed at Premier Inn Portsmouth Dockyard Hotel for a birthday weekend getaway. The location is fantastic. You’re right by the seafront and just across the road from the Historic Dockyard, which made it incredibly convenient for exploring. Breakfast was also good. You can’t really go wrong with a Premier Inn full English - everything was fresh, well stocked, and the chef was very friendly and welcoming. However, there were a few issues that affected our stay. The main one was the bed, which was quite uncomfortable. One side of the mattress had a noticeable dip, which made for a poor night’s sleep. As I was recovering from sciatica, this unfortunately had quite an impact and left me feeling very tired the next day. We also experienced some communication issues. I had received an email before our stay asking about the purpose of our visit and preferred breakfast time. I shared that we were celebrating my birthday and provided our breakfast time, and even received a reply acknowledging this. However, none of this information seemed to be passed on - it wasn’t noted at check-in, and the occasion wasn’t recognised, which was disappointing. Additionally, the bedding on my daughter’s bed had a few rips, which shouldn’t really happen. Overall, a great location and good breakfast, but let down by comfort and communication.

Room was not completely clean. Dirty tissue on bathroom floor, open pillow or duvet bag stuffed under bed. Paid for one lot of ultimate WiFi - none of us could get on it. Reception desk helpful but not hugely friendly. Location good and beds comfortable.

Had a lovely stay. My room was a family room, I assume from the extra beds, so was huge. Bath with shower over. Perfectly clean and quiet. All interactions with staff were pleasant and efficient. The only downside is fhat there is no car park - closest is the historic dockyard about 100 m down the road. You do get a small discount on the regular price with a qr code.
