🏡 Self-Catering Cottage 🐾 Pets Welcome

Glanusk Estate - The Library

Photo: David Owen

This stone cottage sits within the Glanusk Estate, a historic property in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Built to last, it's a characterful base for exploring the Brecon Beacons, with direct access to walking routes and the grounds themselves—which include The Tower and opportunities for trout fishing. The estate sits in open countryside between Crickhowell and the higher peaks.

Everything is on ground level: two bedrooms (one with a zip-and-link super king, the other with two single beds), a bathroom with bath and shower, and a living area that opens onto an enclosed garden. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. A log burner warms the lounge. Wifi, bed linen, towels and heating are included. You have private parking for two cars and your own lawned garden with patio furniture, though the grounds are shared with other estate properties. One dog is welcome. The cottage is non-smoking, and there is an unfenced river in the grounds, so care should be taken.

It suits families or groups of friends wanting a rural retreat with serious walking on the doorstep, or anyone looking for a quieter corner of the park. Arrive after 15:00, depart before 10:00.

I spent an enjoyable weekend camping at this wonderful site. The scenery was stunning.

Only used the grounds as part of a wedding party so no comment on rooms or service. What a charming place set in a simply stunning location.

The campsite has a great location for the Trek26 walk, which is a real positive but unfortunately the facilities let it down. Bathroom Facilities • Far too many touch points just to get into or use the bathrooms, which isn’t ideal for hygiene. • Sinks are poorly positioned and there aren’t enough of them. • The underfloor heating, advertised as a big selling point, is utterly pointless in practice. • Shower cubicles are cramped with barely any space to move or change. • Ladies’ showers don’t drain properly, leaving you standing in a puddle. • Water pressure was off — you could only control the temperature, and when the water was cold it sprayed everywhere. • Drains aren’t free‑flowing, adding to the sense that maintenance is lacking. • Not enough hooks, making showering and changing awkward. • Genuinely not sure when these areas are cleaned, as they didn’t feel fresh or regularly checked. Men’s Toilets • No sinks anywhere near the toilets. • You have to open two doors after using the loo just to wash your hands, which is impractical and unhygienic. Washing-Up Area • The washing‑up liquid was empty, suggesting the area isn’t monitored or topped up. The site is in a brilliant spot for Trek26, but the facilities are not practical, not well thought out, and don’t seem to be maintained to a good standard. For the price and expectations, it was disappointing.
