About Elmhurst Hotel

For travellers who want a practical base rather than a destination in itself, Elmhurst Hotel on Church Road in Reading fits the brief. It suits business visitors needing a reliable overnight stay as much as leisure guests passing through Berkshire, with 55 rooms, air conditioning and drinks available in-room for a straightforward night's sleep.

The hotel has a restaurant and bar on site, along with breakfast, free WiFi and meeting rooms, making it workable for both a working trip and a casual stopover. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, the beds are comfortable, and the free on-site parking adds to the sense of value for money. A lift and luggage storage cover the practical basics, and there's a garden for a bit of outdoor space.

It's worth knowing that some rooms have been reported as tired or not as well kept as others, so this is a hotel that delivers on price and service rather than polish. For anyone prioritising a fair-value base in Reading with parking sorted and a decent breakfast on hand, Elmhurst covers the essentials.

I had a wonderful one night stay at Elmhurst Hotel. From the moment I arrived, the reception staff were friendly, welcoming, and professional, making check in quick and easy. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, providing everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The hotel was spotless, and the overall atmosphere was pleasant. I was very impressed with the service and attention to detail. I would definitely recommend Elmhurst Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Yes this hotel has seen better days..peeling lino and paint, worn carpets and dated decor, there didn’t seem to be a remote for the tv and the shower head had a mind of its own (it was split in places and could do with replacing)..tiny shower cubicle….but my welcome was polite and professional. My room had fresh bedding, towels, a kettle, coffee and tea bags, and complementary soaps in the bathroom. It was cheap and convenient for my location and cleaned to the best of the staff’s ability (as the saying goes you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear ;-) I would book if working in the area again. Also thanks for the upgrade, ie en-suite. it was a nice surprise when I checked in 🙏

The double room was just basic, there was only one coat hanger in the wardrobe, there was no plug for the sink. On Sunday the breakfast was well cooked, so on the Monday we complained and that breakfast was nicely cooked and was hot. I booked direct and was charged £120 but that price is if you book it booking.com but if you book direct it should had been £110.00 . The hotel could do with a refurbishment as it is very run down.

You get what you pay for. Cheapest hotel in Reading. Very unclean rooms and outdated. Very dirty bedding. Cups and glasses were very unclean. Bathroom very dirty especially shower cubical. Surfaces were sticky. Tea bags not in pouches, stale taste. In desperate need for an upgrade. TV worked, shower head good quality.
