What guests say
The stay was Meh. Staff were generally friendly and attentive. We had tp drag our bags upstairs via a lift at the opposite end of the property, which was a bit of an effort. In common areas the hotel looks well maintained. In the guest areas not so much. Carpets have seen better days, halls stairwells looking a bit tatty. The bedroom we had on the second floor in a mid priced room was spacious and largely functional, however there were some gripes. The wall lamps had no shades, the toilet required multiple attempts to flush and the TV in the room was Hacked so kept changing channels. We took video of the TV ghost. For the first time I can remember in any hotel stay of any rating our room didn't have any fridge, I've stayed in shacks in outback Australia with a fridge! Bed was big and comfortable. Aircon in the room also worked well. As we were staying for over another week we asked to change rooms. The first room we were offered was an 'upgrade,' the room had green forest wall paper and the smell of room certInly had forest floor vibes. The next room was much better, however aircon was broken and toilet wasn't fixed properly to the floor. Food is not bad to pretty good.

Overall, I had a great weekend because I was with friends, but I wouldn’t rush back to the Spa Hotel. Unfortunately, I had a severe reaction to the facial, despite being assured that the products used were suitable for sensitive skin. The reaction began within around an hour of the treatment and took over a week to begin improving. During that time, I suffered with a painful eye and significant skin sensitivity. Although I was offered a 50% refund, I don’t feel this reflected the seriousness of the experience. A full refund would have been more appropriate. What disappointed me most was the response from management. Rather than acknowledging that the reaction was very likely caused by the facial, I was told they would require a doctor’s opinion or diagnosis before considering the matter further. Given how quickly the reaction developed after the treatment, this felt unnecessary and dismissive. It also seemed like a poor use of both my time and valuable NHS resources to obtain medical confirmation for something that appeared to be a direct consequence of the facial. Breakfast was fine, but it was disappointing that coffees were charged as an extra. We were only informed of this after they had already been served, which felt misleading and could have been communicated much more clearly beforehand.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay. The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful, the spa facilities were clean and relaxing, and every member of staff we came across was friendly and welcoming. There are a few areas that could be improved. Breakfast service was quite slow, and although the hotel knew about our dietary requirements before we arrived, the options for halal and/or gluten-free guests were very limited. Our room was lovely, but the shower was poor, which was a bit disappointing following such a nice spa experience. We also tried to book afternoon tea before our stay, explaining our dietary requirements, but were told the person dealing with bookings was at lunch and would call us back. Unfortunately, we never received a call, so we missed the opportunity to book it. Overall, it’s a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting with great staff. I’d just like to see better catering for different dietary requirements and a little more attention to service, as it would make a big difference to the overall experience.

If you are expecting a 5 star or, even an extremely nice 4 star hotel, your expectations are too high. But really The Spa Hotel isn't expensive and is priced extremely fairly. So considering the price I think it is great value. The afternoon tea really exceeded expectation, and I am for sure an afternoon tea snob. The Spa is solid and the breakfast decent. Service amazing throughout with parking and a shot walk into town (through the common which is lovely). Had an amazing staff so thank you to everyone for a lovely stay. I would 100% recommend.
