About Travelodge Tunbridge Wells

Royal Tunbridge Wells town centre is within easy reach of Travelodge Tunbridge Wells, with its shops, restaurants and pubs all close by, plus a golf course and entertainment options for those wanting to venture a little further. The location on Mount Ephriam also gives straightforward routes out across Kent, making it a practical base whether you're stopping over or staying longer.

The hotel has 86 rooms across three floors, each with an en-suite bathroom and drinks available in room. Rooms are consistently described as spacious, and the price range reflects a budget option rather than a luxury stay. There's a restaurant and bar on site, breakfast is available, and reception operates around the clock. Pets are welcome, and an electric vehicle charge point is fitted for those who need it, while parking is available on site at the rear for a fee, arranged at reception on arrival.

Staff are regularly noted as friendly and helpful, and the hotel is generally seen as good value for the area. That said, some reports point to parts of the building feeling tired or not always well kept, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly rather than looking for a polished finish. For a straightforward, well-placed stay near the town's amenities, it does the job.

The hotel is rather "faded grandeur" having clearly been a luxury destination in the past. It is now a little scruffy at the edges. That said, you know what you'll get with a Travelodge. The room was spacious and practical, if a little tired. The bed wasn't up to the usual comfortable standard, but wasn't bad. There was plenty of hot water and clean towels and, of course, a kettle, tea and coffee. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The parking was chargeable (£6 per 24 hours) but there was enough of it and it seemed safe enough. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, although it wasn't very quickly topped up when cooked items ran low. We found the bacon rather hard and dried out, and the tomatoes were barely cooked, but overall it filled us up in the mornings. We stayed for 3 nights and the location was excellent.

We stayed here for a few days. We’d had an emergency repair at home so moved between 3 Travelodge's for a couple of weeks. This is an old building with high ceilings and still some original features to see. Our room had huge, original widows. The exterior of our room still had the stain glass window above it but was boarded up on the internal side of the room. The fireplace was also boarded up, although with an added marble type mantlepiece. The room itself was also massive! There were proper radiators rather than wall mounted electric heaters. The room was very warm despite the high ceilings. You have no control over the heating. The building is in dire need of renovations. It’s old and it’s tired. The bathroom was grotty and old. And, to be quite frank, it was absolutely filthy. It hadn’t been cleaned before we checked in as still had shower gel and all sorts of grot and filth on the tiles. Taps and fixtures had water marks and limescale where it just hadn’t been cleaned properly in a long time. Towels in bathroom were also filthy so somehow the bathroom must have been missed entirely. We raised the issue at reception. The bathroom was then given a quick once over and fresh towels provided. But I can’t say it rectified my worries about the filthy bathroom. I’d have honestly cleaned it myself if I had the products with me. I have some patience with it as I know there are a lot of rooms and housekeeping don’t get long to get it all done - please, Travelodge, give your staff time to do their job and pay them accordingly! Rest of the room and beds were very fresh and comfy. Staff were very pleasant and you’d see the same faces throughout your stay. This was definitely one of the safer Travelodge’s. Staff are very ‘on it’. So on it that when one of us had a fever induced nightmare and was shouting in our sleep, we received a knock on the door from security at 2am asking income in to confirm a murder hadn't happened. It’s probably quite funny in hindsight, but I think this was a pretty good sign! We’d stayed at other places in the lead up that were used at drug dealing meeting points which I think would have quite literally ignored a murder. Bar area is cosy. All in all, it’s a really lovely building. I’m sorry to see it waisted on a Travelodge, but if there was a viable option for anything else I’m sure it would be more upmarket and we’d have never got to see it anyway. Can only rate 3 stars due to the filthy bathroom. Budget stay or not, that’s not acceptable

The staff are the reason that this place gets even two stars. We wanted a budget stop over whilst we visited family but I wasn’t expecting such a run down place. The whole place is falling apart. We travelled with two dogs so had a dog friendly room. Unfortunately the first room we had stank of dog urine. Luckily the staff were very good about it and swapped our rooms but I would avoid this particular travel lodge completely. Great staff trying to cope with a dilapidated hotel.

The staff were lovely but they couldn't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. The building is dilapidated, but, it was cheap to stay in. I guess I got what I paid for. It was fairly depressing, so I'd prefer to pay more and stay at the Premier Inn. I expected a basic but still a reasonable/better standard from a travelodge. As a group they do provide a basic but fairly good standard of accommodation, hence why I booked at a Travelodge room at Tunbridge Wells, but I wouldn't book here again. I reiterate though that all the staff were fab.
