Stamford's Georgian architecture and riverside walks draw plenty of visitors, but The Old Stables offers a quieter base for exploring the area. This recently renovated barn conversion sits on the edge of Rutland's countryside, with cattle grazing visible from the garden and woodland providing a buffer from the outside world. A single storey means level access throughout, and the owners have thoughtfully incorporated features that suit guests of varying mobility—roll-under kitchen sinks, adjustable-height bathroom vanities, walk-in showers with grab rails, and slip-in oven doors among them.
Inside, three bedrooms sleep six: two with zip-and-link super king beds (divisible into singles if needed) and a third with an electric king. Both bathrooms have heated towel rails and shower seats. The open-plan ground floor combines a wood-burning stove, dining space and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking—induction hob, dishwasher, washer-dryer and an espresso machine included. Wifi, electricity, bed linen and towels come as standard; the woodburner's initial fuel is already laid on. Underfloor heating and an air source heat pump keep things comfortable year-round. Outside, a patio and seating area overlook the garden, with a BBQ for summer evenings and private parking for two cars. One well-behaved pet is welcome. Smoking is not permitted indoors.
