About The Otter Channel
Tucked onto the southern edge of the High Weald, The Otter Channel is a small, secluded site with sweeping views across Rother Valley farmland - ideal for cloud-gazing under those big Sussex skies. Just half a mile from the gorgeous River Rother, where kingfishers flit along the banks, it's a peaceful base for paddleboarding, kayaking or exploring the riverside footpaths (Epic Life watersports is nearby). Rye, one of the historic Cinque Ports, lies a 10-minute drive away for supplies.
Back at camp, settle in for an alfresco evening - barbecues and campfires are both welcome - or wander down to the riverbank for a picnic. Facilities are simple (composting toilet, shower, washing-up area) but perfectly adequate for a low-key escape. A couple of country pubs sit about a mile and a half away if you fancy letting someone else handle dinner.

What visitors say
I’ve stayed at this campsite on a couple of occasions now, a few years apart, both times it’s been a really good experience. It’s a nice sized campsite in a great setting, with decent basic facilities. There is an area for cooking and washing up, a small shop, some perfectly quaint composting toilets and some bucket showers. The host is friendly and helpful and everything was communicated well in advance. Its a fun place with nature close by and the sounds of the river going through the day and night.

Great back to basics campsite. Bucket showers and compost toilets. Shared cooking and washing up facilities. Close to Rye and Camber Sand Kate the owner is lovely The whole place ia simple and relaxed. And the stars at night if the sky is clear are amazing. Zero light polution

Amazing campsite. Katie is super nice and was super patient as I got lost and delayed on my bike. The honesty shop is great and it has essentials (but not real food - I guess due to licensing). Toilets and showers are free (not the ones where you need to pay £1 for 7 minutes...), but be aware they are rustic (aka, shower with a bucket and toilet is compost... No flushing). The site is small, clean and there's a nice atmosphere. Not one of those massive campsites with caravans and millions people. Exactly what I was looking for!

A wonderful low key and simple campsite in a beautiful setting. Swimming in the river was such a treat and Katie was friendly, helpful and really flexible. The site is off grid with compost loos and so it isn’t for you if you need more luxury, but we loved it. It’s also car free in the camping areas which is great for kids
