An inverted layout means the living spaces occupy the upper floor of this former dairy building, capitalizing on views across to the Cheviot Hills and the coastline beyond. You arrive into a substantial open-plan room with exposed beams where the family can gather, and a separate sitting room offers a quieter retreat as the day winds down. The ground floor holds three bedrooms—two twins and a family room—and two bathrooms, along with a cloakroom for convenience. A private enclosed garden with barbecue and seating area opens onto a paddock the owners invite guests to use; there's also play equipment for children.
The cottage stands on a working farm in rolling countryside with minimal light pollution, making for clear night skies. It sits within reach of the Scottish Borders' walking routes—the Southern Upland Way and St Cuthbert's Way pass nearby—and lies just miles from the coast at Coldingham Bay and St Abb's Head, where cliffs attract both surfers and birdwatchers. Golfers will find courses at Eyemouth, Dunbar and across East Lothian. Northumberland and Berwick-upon-Tweed are accessible to the south; Edinburgh lies two hours north. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are supplied, along with Wi-Fi. No smoking in the property; there is on-site parking.

The perfect cottage from which to explore this wonderful area, cosy but with plenty of room for all the family and well equipped - so glad we came.

We visited Garden cottage to do some work at the property. If the owners are as nice to the guests as they were to trades man, you will be guaranteed a warm welcome.
