The Cottage

Families and groups up to six will find The Cottage works well for a week away in the Scottish Borders. Three bedrooms—a king on the ground floor, a zip-and-link super king and a double upstairs—give flexible sleeping options. The single bathroom is on the ground floor. There's a travel cot and highchair available if you need them.

The ground floor is one open space for living, dining and cooking, with a wood-burning stove and doors onto the enclosed garden. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge and microwave for self-catering. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included, along with fuel for the stove. One well-behaved pet stays free.

The real draw is the garden—a proper sitting-out area with furniture and a barbecue, backing onto open farmland. You're close enough to Kelso and Melrose for a day trip, and surrounded by the walking country the Borders is known for. No smoking throughout.
