About Don Valley Hotel

Don Valley Hotel suits travellers after a straightforward, well-priced base rather than a polished city-centre hotel experience. Set on Attercliffe Road, it works well for adults-only stays where free on-site parking and easy access into Sheffield matter more than frills.

Rooms are en-suite with air conditioning, comfortable beds and strong showers, and come with drinks available in-room. The on-site bar and snack bar cover casual food and drink, with breakfast and packed lunches also available, while a games room and garden with outdoor seating give guests places to relax beyond their room. Practical extras include 24 hour reception, room service, laundry service, luggage storage and free WiFi, plus business services for those travelling for work. Pets are welcome. One point to flag is that some bookings have reportedly been cancelled at short notice, so it is worth confirming arrangements ahead of arrival.

Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and the place has a slightly quirky character that regulars seem to appreciate. Nearby options include golf, fishing, pubs, bars and restaurants, making it a reasonable base for exploring the area without needing to venture far for evening entertainment.

I am so glad I found this place on Google maps! My sister and I were going to 90s fest for the first time, and the national chain hotels next to the stadium were already full; I had to look elsewhere and found this gem. The room prices are really competitive, especially given the location of the place: 11 minutes fron Don Valley Stadium and 20 mind from Meadowhall. We were really lucky and had a room booked in a new building so everything was brand new. The mattresses are incredibly comfortable and made for an excellent night's sleep after raving all day. Bathroom had a spacious shower with very easy to use controls. This was also a must as it was very hot that weekend and a lot of cold showers were taken! The bar downstairs was a lovely cherry on the top. Firstly, it's air conditioned which was such a gentle relief from the heat outside. Also, they have a really quirky but beautiful beer garden with plenty of choice in terms of sunny spots, shaded spots and an undercover area. The decor is really eclectic and very beautiful (see pictures). The staff are all friendly, and the regulars in the bar make you feel welcomed too. Stuart checked us in, showed us round and made sure we had everything we needed. Tracy, the manager, is an absolute delight and makes sure everyone is well looked after - she even opened the kitchen for us at 11pm because we'd not managed to eat since arriving and going to the festival. I definitely recommend booking here if you are wanting to stay in the area. Much more character than the major chain hotels.

In some ways better than expected, in other ways worse than expected. I paid by "dodgy" bank transfer as requested, for room and car parking(very secure), but was asked every day if I had paid. The last time I stayed the room was OK but this time it was abysmal, like an 80s cheap boarding house. The staff are always different and you never know whether you will get a welcoming one or the "what are you doing in our place?" atmosphere. Sad as it's my hometown! Compare my latest "bathroom" photo with last year's, real 80s charm, chalk and cheese. Although it's handier for visiting my brother's place, never again.

When we arrived we couldn't find the carpark so I had to go inside the pub whilst my husband parked a few streets away. I tried the front door which was locked and some guy sitting near to the door let me in. I was asked to go to a 'serving hatch' to 'check in' I was asked for.ID by the lady who checked me in but I didn't have any so she took a photo of me on her phone. The parking was a little chaotic, down a small cobbled path and the parking area was quite small for Peugeot 308! We had some food and a drink in the pub which was nice although the scampi tasted a little bit odd. Our room was in the annexe which meant going up some metal steps outside which was not ideal when my husband was on crutches. The room itself was very clean and tidy. Bathroom was absolutely lovely and the shower was powerful. Plenty of towels too. The bed was comfy however, not a full double sized one. Tea and coffee making facilties were available. However, a spoon would have been better than a little wooden stick to remove the tea bag and I was worried about dropping it on the floor and staining the carpet! Thought the ceiling fan was great and we had that on all night. Nice enough place which was close to the venue and the people were nice. Just need to try and make the carparking less chaotic!

Fantastic stay. I was here for one night then the Ibis close by for two; I’d choose this everytime from now on. Rooms are cheap and value for money is great. The bathrooms are new and upto date. Although the tv placement wasn’t great in my room (15) - I paid 29 quid for a double and a single bed … and spent about half an hour watching tv anyways … so it really didn’t matter because in terms of value for money I don’t think I’ve ever had a stay this good. There are a variety of nice food locations close by, Nandos, Wagawama, McDonald’s etc a 15 minute walk or a short car drive away, take aways outside less than two minutes walk and pub grub down stairs. It was noisy until early hours due to the pub downstairs, but please be aware I stayed on Easter weekend and on a Sunday with lots of drinkers having an extra eve to enjoy, I’m sure on a standard week night it would have been much quieter. The noise wasn’t enough for me to be upset, it was noticeable but not a hinderance. I’ve tried to give as honest as a review as possible, both pros and cons. Plz be assured when I’m working in Sheffield this will be my location from now on. It’s an honest and humble stay, but that’s all I ask for when working away. Thanks to the owners for making it worthwhile.
