Prince Rupert Hotel

Room was spacious but uninspired decor (very function over form). The water pressure was very poor in the shower - so it was good the rain shower head didn’t work as it wouldn’t have been a good experience. It was quite noisy until after 1am in the room because of the pub next door and also some neighbouring rooms. Beware of the parking situation. Wait till 4pm to check in if you have a car as despite being able to check in from 3, the road to the hotel front is pedestrian only access until 4pm each day. I ended up getting a parking ticket because I parked in the nearest loading zone possible while I checked in, but then I still had to wait till 4 to access the Carpark which the hotel uses so I just had to drive away and park in another part of the city until then. Breakfast was a good selection and mostly very good, although the scrambled eggs tasted very weird and I couldn’t eat them. The actual restaurant and decor in the main aress were very good. Service was friendly enough but the staff didn’t seem especially invested in my experience. The requirement to return your key everytime you leabe the hotel was not ideal and it felt awkward to leave and return too frequently. Location is about as good as you can get in Shrewsbury if you want to be central and access the nearby pubs and shops.

We loved the hotel’s location, tucked just off the main high street. It may feel a bit older than the big chains, but that adds to its charm. Our room was compact yet comfortable, with a cosy double bed, a modern bathroom, and a full‑length mirror. Despite the single‑glazed windows, we had no issues with noise. A kettle with tea and coffee was provided, and although the plug sockets were only on one side of the bed, the additional USB charging point was a welcome convenience. Breakfast offered everything we needed, with a simple cold buffet and freshly cooked hot breakfast brought to the table. We’d happily return.

My daughter and I stayed in a twin room on 3rd March for one night. It was warm, comfortable and beds were comfy. Bathroom was warm and lots of hot water. The breakfast was excellent. Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. As it was a treat I wanted a good experience abd we certainly had that. Would I stay again ... definitely

I booked this hotel specifically for my wedding, and I honestly wish I hadn’t. It should barely pass as a two-star, and nothing in their customer information can be trusted. They advertise 24-hour room service in their own guest books, so when we got back from our wedding at around 10-11pm, both of us feeling unwell with sore throats , we tried to order something simple. We weren’t asking for a full meal, just a pot of tea to help us feel a bit better. Instead, we were abruptly told that room service “wasn’t in action”. No explanation, no apology, nothing. We went downstairs to see if we could sort it at the bar, only to find the bar fully open and happily serving beer and wine to other guests. When we mentioned it was our wedding night and we just needed a hot drink, the man behind the bar couldn’t have cared less. His attitude was so dismissive it came across as basically telling us to go away. We also could not make tea in the room given the kettle was filled with limescale/mould This completely ruined the end of our wedding day. If you’re thinking of booking here, I’d only ever consider it if you’re desperate and have absolutely no other options. The place promises a lot on paper and delivers none of it when it matters.
