About The Bull Inn
Seven rooms are all The Bull Inn offers, but it makes the most of them, tucked into Butcher Row in the heart of Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The building leans into its pub-hotel character, pairing old-fashioned charm with straightforward modern comforts rather than trying to be a grand hotel.
Rooms are spacious by the standards of a town-centre inn, and breakfast is a genuine highlight, with the kitchen turning out food that guests single out above almost everything else. The bar and restaurant downstairs keep a lively atmosphere going, often with live music, and there's a garden for quieter moments. Free WiFi, luggage storage, meeting rooms and free on-site parking round out the practical side, and pets are welcome too.
Staff are generally friendly and attentive, helping give the place its reputation for good value, though a handful of guests have found service inconsistent at busier times. For visitors wanting to explore Shrewsbury without paying city-hotel prices, it's a solid base right in the middle of things.

What guests say
Stayed at The Bull Inn last night and had a cracking stay. The staff were brilliant—despite the bar being absolutely heaving, they got us checked in quickly, with a smile, and made us feel right at home. Now, a little public service announcement: this is a city-centre music venue. If you book here and then complain that you can hear music, that's a bit like booking a room above a bakery and being shocked by the smell of bread! 🤣 Yes, there was some noise, but nothing that stopped us enjoying our stay or getting a good night's sleep. The atmosphere is part of the charm, and you're right in the heart of Shrewsbury with everything on your doorstep. Great staff, great location, plenty of character, and a much more memorable stay than yet another bland chain hotel. We'd happily stay again.

My family and friends came to the bull this weekend to enjoy some of the music as part of loop fest. We were having a nice time until a particularly poor experience at the bar, marred it for us. My mother and sister had gone to the bar to order some drinks. A group of young lads thought they were above everyone else in the pub and tried to skip the queue, shoving their way through the crowd. This led to my mother being shoved through the queue towards the bar. It was at this point that a male member of staff suggested that my mum and sister had pushed in. Understandably, he hadn't seen the incident which led to this so you could see where he was coming from initially. However, when another lady tried to explain to the member of staff what had happened the staff member failed to acknowledge any of it, and turned around to the other members of staff and said that neither my mother or sister, or this other poor lady should be served and that they should "wait all day if they had to". Unsurprisingly at this point we all left to find somewhere with better service, and where bullying your way to the front of the queue wasn't standard place. My family and friends have used this pub for years. Sadly after how this situation was managed. we won't be back and will be sharing this story with others. We understand that misunderstandings can happen, particularly when it's busy. But for a member of staff to carry on along the same narrative, impervious to the truth of the situation presented by the other lady with such arrogance, and dare I say passive aggressiveness was laughably poor.

I stayed at the Bull Inn for one night. Located in the historical centre of Shrewsbury, there are plenty of shops and pubs around. The room was comfortable and spacious. There was a desk for my laptop. The room doesn't have windows to the outside but this was not an issue. It is located above the pub and was noisy until fairly late but the staff let me know and I had earplugs so it was not a problem. Some bits of decoration need redoing but it's minor. The TV is fairly ancient and could be replaced with a smart one. The breakfast was great. I would happily return.

Good: Comfortable mattress, hot shower, decent breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. Not so good: Very thin curtains and bright neon lights right outside so room does not get very dark when lights are off. Quite noisy - audible thumping music from somewhere until after 1 am and it wasn’t even the weekend. Also lots of shouting in street outside (I do appreciate this is not inn’s fault, but prospective guests should be aware). Good for price but bring your own eye mask and earplugs if you like dark and quiet for sleeping!
