A small 6-room pub-hotel on Milk Street in central Shrewsbury, suited to travellers who want hearty food and a dog-friendly stay over polish.
About The Old Post Office
The Old Post Office suits visitors after a straightforward, easy-going base rather than a formal hotel experience - walkers with dogs, couples on a budget city break, or anyone keen on a proper Sunday roast without much fuss. With just 6 rooms above a working pub, it has the feel of a local rather than a chain, right in the middle of Shrewsbury on Milk Street.
The kitchen is the main draw: generous pub food, chips that get singled out often, and regular meal deals that make it good value. There's a bar on site, a garden for warmer days, and breakfast included for those staying over. Free WiFi and luggage storage cover the practical basics, and the building also does duty as a wedding venue with meeting rooms available, so it sees more than just overnight guests.
Staff are generally friendly and helpful, though service can be inconsistent at busier times. Free on-site parking is a genuine plus in a city centre location, and the address puts guests within easy reach of Shrewsbury's historic streets and transport links, making it a practical stopover as much as a destination in itself.

What guests say
Shrewsbury Old Post Office. Lovely food and definitely budget friendly. Steak and ale pie was gorgeous with proper chunky chips like mum made - obviously not good if watching calories but worth the treat. . The menu has plenty for everyone. Staff are lovely and dogs are made welcome 😊

What a great find. Lovely rooms above a pub in a cracking location in the heart of beautiful Shrewsbury- everything is on your doorstep. A public car park about 4 minutes walk away offers free overnight parking too (6pm to 8am) so almost free parking. Our room was spacious with a comfy bed, large screen tv, tea coffee, posh biccies and toiletries and its own private shower room opposite the room. That’s the only minor negative that ours was not en-suite, but others are. A fantastic cooked breakfast with quality ingredients included in the price so all in all excellent and will now be our go to as we visit Shrewsbury regularly to see friends.

Location perfect. Room was spotless. Size was perfect. Checkout time was 10.30 which in my view is very early. Breakfast was good but would have liked option of fresh fruit. Noise in weekends is alot in the evening until about midnight due to live music. So if light sleeper you would need earplugs.

Excellent venue for a weekend away. 1st class service . Proper pub with some good entertainment. Rooms were 1st class and breakfast was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay and will be back again in the near future.
