Bay Tree Shepherds Hut is a couples' retreat: a handcrafted hut on a quiet Somerset site with everything contained in a single open-plan space. The sleeping area has a double bed; the shower room is compact; the kitchen is fitted for straightforward cooking rather than elaborate meals. Where the hut truly distinguishes itself is outside—a wood-fired hot tub for four, a firepit, and decked seating overlook the surrounding fields.
The interior keeps things simple. A wood burner heats the space, bed linen and towels are provided, and wi-fi means you need not disconnect entirely. Electricity, initial firewood and a welcome pack are included; parking for one car is on site. The hut does not have a television. No smoking is permitted.
Chard town centre lies a few minutes' drive away, with shops, restaurants, pubs and a leisure centre. Walkers find miles of countryside immediately accessible, and Sustrans Route 33 (for cyclists) is roughly a mile off. The Jurassic Coast beaches at Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Seaton are reachable in around 20 minutes; an 18-hole golf club is five minutes away. The setting suits those wanting seclusion without complete remoteness.

Just returned from a 1 night getaway for my husbands birthday. Absolutely amazing, beautifully clean and high spec hut with bbq and pizza oven but the wood fired hot tub! 😍 AMAZING!!! Samantha and Declan are fantastic hosts, can’t wait to visit again. Don’t hesitate to book. Very dog friendly.

Just left The Portland Hut after an incredible last minute 2 nights here. From start to end, our whole experience was amazing. Samantha & Declan are such lovely and welcoming hosts! The Shepherds hut was stunning, super clean and spacious. The bath and outdoor cooking facilities ( pizza oven and over fire cooking) were insane. Had a really good meal at the Squirrel Inn which was really good and walkable distance. 10/10

Our stay at Somerset Shepherds Huts was amazing. The location is perfect as it is so peaceful and a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Samantha & Declan were very welcoming and on hand whenever we needed anything. As soon as we checked out we wanted to check back in again. We would highly recommend this place to everybody.

This place is amazing! Samantha & Declan were the most welcoming hosts, provided everything we needed and very friendly. Checking in & out was really easy. The hut itself is well equipped with everything you could need, it’s really cute and styled beautifully. And the hot tub is an amazing bonus! We 100% plan on coming back again in the summer, we loved our stay.
