Step inside Smithfield House and you're immediately in a large dining room with a woodburner, opening onto a kitchen fitted with two dishwashers, an electric range and all the essentials for cooking. The ground floor spreads across three bedrooms—one a zip-and-link super kingsize with French doors to the garden and ensuite—plus a second ensuite. Climb the stairs to find a comfortable living area with a 50-inch smart TV and five more bedrooms (a mix of kingsize, double and single beds), each with their own space, plus two further bathrooms. Underfloor heating on the ground floor, standard central heating elsewhere, and wi-fi throughout make the place straightforward to live in. The essentials—bed linen, towels, electricity—are covered.
What genuinely sets this apart is what surrounds the house. An external games room holds table tennis, table football, a PlayStation 4, a cinema screen and surround sound system. Outside there's an enclosed courtyard, a pizza oven and a wood-pellet smoker. Parking for 10 cars sits on the property, and there's an electric vehicle charging point. One dog is welcome (the property sits on a working sheep farm, so they'll need to stay on a lead). The village of Mauchline puts you close enough to reach Ayr, Troon and Prestwick within a short drive, while walkers can access the Ayrshire Coastal Path and the River Ayr Way—a 40-mile route from source to sea—from here. Galloway Forest Park, Britain's largest forest, is also nearby.

The property is absolutely stunning. There were 14 of us and we had so much space! The owners were also on hand when we had questions which was really helpful. The house is close enough to local amenities and other attractions. The only down side? In terms of accessibility , there’s no downstairs communal toilet. There is 1 bathroom on ground level but it’s an en suite to a room. Despite that, overall an excellent experience.

We had a fantastic stay at Smithfield House. We were a group of 11 adults and 4 kids. There was plenty of space for all of us. Great facilities at Smithfiled - the pizza oven was fantastic. Lots to do in the surrounding area. Would love to visit again!

We hired Smithfield House for an extended family gathering of 16 to celebrate a significant birthday. Hosted a Murder Mystery casino night and the huge dining room was a great venue for this. House was a perfect set up with enough bedrooms and social spaces for everyone. Spotlessly clean and enough of every implement/utensil. We used the pizza oven the second night and had a cocktail and pizza event with games in the games room. The location was great as we went out to the local, Galston, paintball, one afternoon and had such fun. A trip to the beach at Dunure on our last day and a short walk to the Black Bull in Tarbolton for good food and service on our last evening completed a wonderful weekend of celebrations. Thank you Smithfield House, we would definitely return.
