Broadstone Barns - The Hideaway

South Derbyshire

The village of Ticknall sits quietly in south Derbyshire, surrounded by countryside that invites walking straight from your door. Nearby Melbourne offers pubs, restaurants and independent shops, while Calke Abbey and Staunton Harold Reservoir are within reach for a day out. It's the kind of location where you can be as active or as still as you like.

The Hideaway is a single-bedroom barn conversion on the ground floor, sleeping two. Everything is open-plan—living room, kitchen and bedroom flow together with bi-fold doors opening onto a private courtyard. The kitchen has what you need to cook properly: gas cooker, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. The bedroom has a super king bed, and the ensuite combines a bath with a large walk-in shower. Heating, electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are all included, along with a welcome pack when you arrive.

The real draw is the courtyard. It's yours alone, furnished with a patio and garden furniture, and it has a private hot tub. There's parking for two cars and a bike store if you need it. No smoking inside. This is a couple's retreat designed for doing very little—or everything, depending on the day.

Our third stay, we just love this place! We stayed in mid June during a fairly hot spell, (not a heatwave). It's so relaxing, we loved sitting out , listening to the birds and enjoying the peace. There is a lovely 30 min walk over to Calke Abbey, well worth walking there if you are able. On a slight negative note, the bedroom was very hot at night, no fans provided, I had to go and buy one. You can open windows, but then at 4am it was bright sunshine, no black out blinds at all. It's a tough one because you can't complain about good weather, but it definitely needs some fans in the bedroom at least. That being said, we will be booking to go back.

Amazing experience in the Retreat. Everything was there that we needed for a relaxing weekend. Clean top to bottom and Amazing facilities. Also a big thankyou to Julie-Ann, who supported in helping me organise a proposal as well.

What a lovely staycation in Derbyshire. Very unusual holiday style. Jacuzzi from morning to evening with the sun. So relaxed atmosphere and great to catch up with friends.
