About Oxford Street Stays

Oxford Street Stays occupies a no-frills city-centre address at 45 Oxford Street in Southampton, the kind of practical, unfussy building that suits travellers wanting a base rather than a destination in itself. It's a straightforward hotel setup, with 24 hour reception meaning arrivals and late check-ins are never a problem.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, in-room drinks and free WiFi, and breakfast is available to set guests up for the day. It won't compete with anywhere grander, but it covers the essentials guests need for a short stay.

The location works well for those passing through the port, with the Continental Ferry Terminal close by, and Southampton Central within reach for onward travel. Around Oxford Street there's a good spread of pubs, restaurants and other eateries, plus entertainment and watersports nearby for those with time to explore, and a golf course for anyone wanting a round while in the area.

Saw a lot of bad reviews but stayed anyway and couldn't of been happier. Great location. The room was spacious and had a great bathroom with bath. The bedroom was clean with comfortable bed.

Both inside and outside window are broken, contacted the hotel and they asked me to send videos and pictures to them on WhatsApp, however they ignored me. The bedding is very old and dirty as well. Left straight away after seen the place. Contacted the owner after 1 month but they still refused to refund. AVOID!

We stayed here for two nights before our cruise. Based on the photos on their website, it creates a cozy but somewhat spacious room. Unfortunately for us, our experience was not in line with the photos provided. The room was extremely small and dated. For the price paid per night £106 we felt this was very overpriced. The bed was fine for sleeping, but again, for the price I expected better. The bathroom looked renovated but was very small and closet like. The shower pressure was decent, but there was no light above the shower, which created a dark area. The window in our room was broken, and I'm not saying it wouldn't open. It was literally smashed. It's not very appealing to look at. The front hallway/stair area had a smell of urine (stale cat pee) again, not appealing. Finally, the worst thing we experienced was the ridiculous noise coming from the lower street bars and clubs. They messaged us prior and said there was "possible nightlife noise." This was an understatement. We could hear the music loud and clear even with the windows closed. This went on until at least midnight. As the night went on, the vibration from the bass was so intense that it shook the room. The entry instructions for the room were detailed on WhatsApp. The owners advise on the message to not hesitate to call or message if there are any issues. We messaged 4 times (10 pm last night) with video evidence of the noise, but we still have not received a response (nor have they read these messages). The only positive thing we will say is that the location to the city is great. It is within 5-10 minute walk to the town center and cruise ports. Which is what we wanted. The issues above, though, trump the location. In conclusion, we will never return to this location, nor would we recommend staying here. Find anything else in Southampton.

I wish I knew more details about the property before booking. I’m the type of person that will take time to read the reviews however none of the reviews mentioned how unclean the rooms are , I found short hairs that are not mine in the bedsheets. The property doesn’t have a lift so if you have big luggage you will have to drag it through the very thin stairs and occasionally touching the mouldy walls. The room has an awful smell of mould so I had to keep the window open , like that was going to suddenly change the smell in the room much . On top of all that guess what? It’s a Saturday and everything was incredibly loud ..if you want peace , comfort and easy access avoid this place at all costs. Is not even like it was cheap , the place is a rip off for what they offer and now I know why is the cheapest in the area. I’ve ruined my back going up the stairs with luggage but mostly I’m more disappointed and disgusted by how unclean everything is and how unsafe it feels. If you don’t care about cleanliness, peace and comfort than this place is in a great location for bars and pubs. And that’s about it. If I could change my reservation , I would but unfortunately I cannot.. I will make sure to never book this place in my life ! Overall not a pleasant stay . Seriously , avoid at all costs ! Don’t make the same mistake as I did.
