About The Inn at Kingsbarns
Travellers after a low-key base close to the coast and the golf will find The Inn at Kingsbarns fits the bill nicely. With just four rooms, it has the feel of a small, traditional inn rather than a big hotel, set on Main Street in St Andrews within easy reach of the Old Course and the town's coastal attractions.
Rooms are quiet and comfortable, with good showers among the small details that guests notice. Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar serving food that's a genuine highlight, including a breakfast worth getting up for, plus free WiFi and 24-hour reception for those arriving at odd hours. Meeting rooms are available for anyone combining business with the trip, and pets are welcome too.
Staff are consistently described as attentive and friendly, adding to a warm, welcoming atmosphere that suits a short break rather than a flashy stay. Free on-site parking makes it easy for those exploring further along the Fife coast, and the whole package is generally reckoned to represent very good value for money.
What guests say
What a great little find. The accommodation is spot on, nice quality rooms and furnishings and a decent shower. The bed is comfortable and the room very quiet. The bar is friendly, both the staff and locals are happy to chat. The food is somewhat limited and a bit carb heavy, but it was all nicely cooked and tasty. What's unusual about this pub is that it is a community owned pub, so often there are locals volunteering behind the bar, very friendly.

Recent stay at the inn and overall I was extremely pleased. St Andrews and surrounding area for most of the year is unfortunately overpriced in my view, and the room we had was not cheap. It’s really b and b vibes. However I have to say the room was nice and spacious, the staff were attentive and kind, the breakfast quality was really very high (I really appreciate that they seem to go for high quality ingredients eg mushroom, sausage, haggis, black pudding all superb, with a perfectly cooked egg to top it off). The bathroom products seemed high quality to me as well. So, yeah, it’s a good place and would recommend if you need somewhere in that part of the world but want to avoid the (even more) overpriced St Andrews hotels.

We booked a table for dinner on New Year's Eve when staying in the local Kingsbarns area. They have a great online booking system, which was easy to complete, and communication was good ahead of our booking with reminders sent. I was a bit concerned on arrival as it was understandably busy but there wasn't much awareness that we had booked a table, and with a dog too. However, I needn't have been worried! A caring member of the team who had stepped in to help with the busy period, made sure to get us a corner table in the bar area, and we were well taken care of! Our orders were taken promptly, and were both were thrilled with our choices of the duck, delicious! Dessert was very yummy too! The bar had a lovely cosy feel, and a great village atmosphere. (My only observation was that something other than a 2000s music channel could have been shown on the large TV as it is a super big screen, but the music being played didn't really fit the ambience!) Would definitely recommend and will be sure to visit again when in the area!
