Fairmont St Andrews

We stayed for a week at Fairmont, St.Andrew's of Scotland to play the old course and kingsbarns. The hotel is spacious and clean. The location is very convenient to the old course as well as their own golf courses. The breakfast has many varieties and good Service. We particularly Enjoyed playing golf at Torrance and kittocks In the afternoon. However, I’m quite disappointed in the hotels handling of a billing mistake. I had a simple lunch at the restaurant On the golf course. The waitress Charged £58 (for another group) to my credit card instead of £17 I spent. They realized the mistake on the spot. And promised me they would take care of it since I had to Leave and play golf. I then followed up with the Restaurant, and The front desk of the hotel multiple times during my stay. Every time, I was promised a quick Correction. They never did. After I went home, I sent an email To the hotel, Explain explaining my situation. I never heard back from them. It’s a good experience with a bad taste in the end.

We had Afternoon Tea to celebrate my birthday. At first, I was a bit disappointed as we were the only people taking it but this was soon forgotten. Joseph, the host was flamboyant and very attentive and soon put as at ease. Nadia, who made the nine different teas we enjoyed was calm and understated and kept the table supplied with savouries, sandwiches and too many cakes to eat (we had some to take away). Fairmont claim this is the best Afternoon Tea in St. Andrews and I have to agree. Perhaps not as cosy as the Balmoral in Edinburgh but the quality and service does not disappoint. Will certainly be going back.

Location is brilliant very easy to get into St Andrews and the hotel has a shuttle bus. Breakfast buffet was amazing, plenty of choice, hot and cold options, different drinks and pastries. Staff are very kind. Atrium and reception are very well decorated, outside the building and grounds are nicely maintained. The rooms are dated, a bit tired and for £300+ per night you get a nice view of the carpark which feels like a same. Our room also had a baby cot in which could have been removed to make the room look nicer. Bed was comfortable and bathroom too. Spa was a disappointment, the water was on the cold side, the floor was dirty and the saunas could do with better lighting and cleaned more as there were hairs clumped on the floor and on the walls. Staff were very kind, very attentive and helpful and really make a difference in the stay. They are hardworking and always did their best to help and answer any questions. Overall the stay felt expensive for what we got and we probably wouldn’t return. It was also disappointing that the hotel restaurant La Cucina was a very disappointing visit and you could do with a better place to eat.

This is a really nice hotel that I can’t recommend highly enough. Check-in was quick and simple (Thanks Sisi) and the room was comfortable, large wall mounted TV, minibar, tea & coffee tunnocks wafers, still water, slippers and robes, tables, easy chair, bedside units, wardrobe and room safe. Bed and bedding was very comfortable. Our room was on the 3rd floor with great views across the Kittocks and Torrance golf course to the sea. Breakfast was excellent with hot and cold buffet, fresh fruit, and a range of juices plus a menu was available to select freshly prepared options at no extra charge I loved the Eggs Benedict. Dinner was available from a number of locations including a sports bar, lobby café/coffee bar, and an Italian restaurant. Our nightly option was the Italian restaurant that had a varied menu which meant we didn’t have the same meal twice during our 4 day stay, their pizzas were a stand-out option. What made this stay so memorable was the fantastic members of staff who made a tremendous job of making us feel really comfortable like a home away from home while not being overbearing.
