About Pedn Olva

Pedn Olva is built directly onto the granite rocks separating St Ives harbour from Porthminster Beach, with terraces set some thirty feet above the sea. The hotel is operated by St Austell Brewery and pairs stylish ensuite rooms with a contemporary bar and restaurant serving pub classics with a modern Cornish edge.

Recent renovation has brought the rooms up to a smart, comfortable standard while keeping the building's dramatic position front and centre, with many rooms and the terrace itself looking straight out over the bay. The restaurant's award-winning approach to beer, wine and coffee has picked up recognition at national pub industry awards.

Its position right on the water, a few minutes' walk from both the harbour and Porthminster Beach, combined with dog-friendly rooms and a relaxed pub atmosphere, makes Pedn Olva a popular mid-range choice for couples and families alike.

Beautiful hotel right on the water. Our room (#20) had breathtakingly beautiful views and we kept the window slightly open at night to hear the peaceful sound of the waves hitting the rocks on the shoreline beneath our window. Bed was comfortable, bathroom and shower excellent. The room is down a narrow staircase and hallway that twists through the building, which really adds to the charm and experience. We got in late and the persons in the restaurant/ bar were friendly and very helpful to get us to our room and another (Dave?) walked us to a restaurant that was still open as most had closed. Very friendly and amazing service! Highly recommend!

We’ve walked past this place many times before coming into St Ives, and we decided to try it today and we were not disappointed. The staff in the restaurant were really friendly, the view from the restaurant itself was so beautiful, and the food itself was really nice. I want to mention our server, Crystal. She was so friendly and really easy to talk to. She’s a really positive person, the kind of people we need in restaurants. Also, bathrooms were really clean. I recommend.

Came here for dinner and really enjoyed our visit. The whole place is designed to make the most of the sea views, with a cosy interior plus rooftop and terrace seating when the weather allows. Service was excellent throughout and the main courses were superb. I had the smoked tofu and harissa couscous, which was excellent, and the surf ‘n’ turf burger was another standout. Desserts were good, although they weren’t quite perfect. The lemon tiramisu was still slightly frozen in the middle, while the ice cream served with the miso chocolate crémeux had gone a little too soft by the time it arrived. One small suggestion would be to rename the “crab fries”. The description made us expect fries made from crab, whereas they’re actually fries topped with crab. Calling them “crab loaded fries” would make that much clearer. Overall, we’d happily return. The views alone make it worth visiting, but it’s the quality of the food and the friendly service that would bring us back.

Myself and my girlfriend (we are both in our 60s) really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Pedn Olva over the Easter bank holiday. The rooms are perched high up on the rocks edge with amazing views directly out to sea and St Ives harbour. The bar and restaurant views are as good too. The food was great and the staff happy and overall the place had a good chilled vibe. Whoever designed and decorated the place (which must be in recent years) is to be congratulated as it is all very trendy, tasteful and thoughtful. Our room was very well presented and my only niggle is that is was a little on the small size for us. The town is a only a 10m stroll away and car parking at the station is very close albeit there are some high steps - we definitely wish to come back.
