About The Stratford Townhouse
The Stratford Townhouse occupies a 400-year-old Grade II listed building at 16 Church Street, in the quieter Old Town end of the centre and directly opposite the schoolroom and guildhall where Shakespeare was educated. It works as a pub and restaurant on the ground floor with twelve bedrooms above, which is a format that suits Stratford well: you get the location and the atmosphere of a town-centre inn without the scale of a hotel.
The twelve en-suite rooms range from standard king doubles and twins through superior kings to larger signature rooms, and none of them are identical. One has a free-standing bath, another a window seat over the street, and the older rooms carry the beams and floor levels you would expect in a building of this age. Some rooms are dog-friendly on request for a charge. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is relatively early at 10.30am, which is worth noting if you like a slow morning.
Downstairs the kitchen works with local suppliers and changes the menu regularly, and the bar keeps a rotating choice of real ales alongside a decent wine list. The mix of rustic and modern in the interior is deliberate and it mostly comes off. Being on Church Street means you are five minutes from Holy Trinity Church one way and five minutes from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre the other, with the Sheep Street restaurants directly around the corner. There is no on-site car park, so plan for the town centre car parks.

What guests say
We had such a wonderful stay and can't recommend this hotel highly enough. Jennifer, the manager, is absolutely fantastic. She starts early, works late, and goes above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome. We stayed in Room 1, which was perfect. It was one of the hottest days of the year, but the room stayed lovely and cool, making for a very comfortable night's sleep. Saturday evening was a real highlight. The live music was wonderful, and we all stayed to watch England beat Denmark. Jennifer surprised all the hotel guests with free pizza during the match, which created such a fun and friendly atmosphere. It was a thoughtful gesture that made the evening even more memorable. Breakfast the next morning was amazing, and every member of staff we met was warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. Thank you, Jennifer and the whole team, for such a memorable stay. We can't wait to come back!

I stayed here a couple of months ago with my Aunt and had such a lovely time. The rooms were gorgeous, the food was lovely. Right in the town centre, perfect for all the tourist attractions & theatres. The staff were some of the nicest ive met - Atif in particular was especially accommodating, served breakfast every morning and we enjoyed some lovely chats. W

I didn't stay in the hotel, I had a Sunday roast dinner here just today. Absolutely delicious! It was honestly one of the best Sunday roasts I've ever had. I had the chicken. All of the sides were deliciuos and the Yorkshire pudding was enormous. Gravy, delicious and plenty of it. There was a very nice atmosphere and I could hear a fellow playing the guitar and singing over in the pub area. Very nice.

I meant to review my stay here back in January and time has slipped by. The Stratford Townhouse has recently had a new team in. I was celebrating my birthday with a treat at the Townhouse. The team there made it a very special occasion. The small plates food was delicious carefully prepared and beautifully presented. I can't praise the new team working there highly enough. They have some work to do with the building itself but its going to be really good. Wishing you all the very best in your endeavours.
