About The Crown at Woodbridge
The Crown sits on the Thoroughfare in the middle of Woodbridge, a market town on the tidal River Deben with a working tide mill, boatyards and a good run of independent shops. The building is old, the interior is not: a comprehensive redesign produced ten individually decorated en suite bedrooms and an open-plan bar and dining space built around a suspended wooden sailing boat.
Bedrooms have goose-down bedding, underfloor heating in the bathrooms and organic French toiletries. They differ in size and outlook, with some tucked under the eaves, so it is worth being specific about what you want when booking. Free wifi throughout, and the smaller room count means the place never feels processed.
Food is a genuine reason to stay. The restaurant holds two AA Rosettes and cooks with local suppliers, including Suffolk pork and fish landed on the coast, with a bar menu for anyone wanting something lighter. Breakfast is generally well reviewed and included in most rates.
Woodbridge is one of the more sensible bases in the county. Sutton Hoo is roughly ten minutes by car, the East Suffolk line runs from the station down to Ipswich and up towards the coast, and Aldeburgh, Orford and Snape are all inside half an hour. Rates are lower than Southwold or Aldeburgh for comparable quality. It suits couples, walkers using the Deben path, and anyone building a trip around the Anglo-Saxon sites. With only ten rooms it fills quickly for summer weekends.

We had a superb 4 night break at The Crown in Woodbridge. Every staff member was welcoming and helpful - an excellent team. Room, food and bar all great plus brilliant town centre location, ample off-road car parking and 5 mins walk from railway station. Plus we really loved Woodbridge and the surrounding area - Sutton Hoo just over the river. Last photo is of the Tide Mill, a lovely working museum also 5 mins from the hotel.

Had a lovely time, only came for a drink... However, the charismatic bartender had other ideas and swiftly tempted us with delicious food. The server (Sam? I believe to recall) was lovely, polite, and overall great conversation. Made me and my family feel welcome despite being in a new area. Great and friendly staff absolutely recommend 10/10

Amazing staff, a hotel manager that shows you to your rooms and talks you through everything and assures 24 hour assistance. Joshua you made our stay all the worth while. Served breakfast by a young lady named Ella was such a soft and polite service. The only regret we didn’t try dinner with them. Best quality breakfast we have ever had the salmon rosed is the added touch to an amazing stay, we will be back soon!

Our room no 7 on first floor was spacious, clean, comfortable, with both a shower and bath. Modernised in recent years. Everything worked well except one reading light but the maintenance man was off so fault noted rather than actioned which was fine as plenty of other lights.Only adverse comment with it was needing to drop the blind for privacy when it was still light. There’s no lift but the staff helped with our luggage. In the evening the bar area was quite noisy being Friday night but our room was quiet. Breakfast cold buffet choice was adequate but being a small hotel, not extensive. The hot food we ordered at breakfast however was fine with the poached eggs just right. Before arrival we lunched with family at a different pub so cannot comment on either lunch or dinner.
