Saw there was a room available on a booking site so booked it on a whim whilst on a drive in the north east. Dianna the owner was a delight to speak to when we got there, she showed us around and you get a lot for what you pay for. The rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floor, it does have a steep staircase to get to the 1st floor because it’s a 300 yr old building. Twin room with en-suite coffee/ tea in the room and an added bonus fully equipped kitchen with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bread, cereal, milk and jam for breakfast It has a patio area off the kitchen and an Italian restaurant on the ground floor which was well worth the visit. It has views of the river Wear and you can see the football stadium and university.

I wanted a solo getaway but not in the city. This was a really good little gem. It looks odd from the outside but it's really pretty inside. The way I would describe this place is it would be like visiting your Aunties place. Laid back, quiet, casual, make yourself at home but a couple of boundaries too :) Breakfast was interesting. I've never helped myself to someone's kitchen before but it felt really homely. The rooms were clean and quiet. Everything you needed. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone wanting something a bit different from the rest.

We have been using this B&B for a number of years now when we go up for the rugby league.. But now Sunderland are back in the big league might be interesting for away fans to stay at.. Prices are good rooms are nice, not far from the stadium.. The owner is always friendly and always happy to help with anything
