Steve, Alex and the family welcome campers to their quiet smallholding on the outskirts of Bunbury village, where tent pitchers enjoy Peckforton Hills views and the company of Phoebe the friendly llama. This is genuinely simple camping – no electric hook-ups, just basic loos and a shower – so bring torches for nocturnal wanders and embrace the back-to-basics appeal. The peaceful, dog-friendly field has loads of privacy yet sits conveniently close to both village amenities (the local pub and shop are a 10-minute walk) and Chester's family attractions, including the zoo and The Ice Cream Farm.

Walkers and cyclists are particularly well served. The Sandstone Trail passes nearby, Beeston Castle is 45 minutes on foot, and the Shropshire Union Canal towpath offers easy family routes. Three pubs lie within 20 minutes' walk for decent food and a pint after a day exploring the Cheshire countryside.
