About The Pheasant Inn

The Pheasant Inn is a timber-framed country pub with rooms, set high above the Cheshire countryside in Higher Burwardsley near Chester. Its character comes through in the open fires and cosy public rooms, giving it the feel of a proper village inn rather than a standard hotel.

There are 12 en-suite bedrooms, each with air conditioning and free WiFi, and the building is fitted with a lift for easier access. Guests can expect a hearty breakfast, drinks brought to the room, and laundry and luggage storage if needed. Outside there's a garden with outdoor seating that makes the most of the surrounding views, and the inn is dog-friendly throughout.

The kitchen has built a reputation locally, particularly for its steak pie and Sunday roast, served alongside a varied menu in a warm, well-attended dining room. The staff are consistently described as attentive and helpful. Beyond the inn, the area is well suited to walking and cycling, with further pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby, and free on-site parking makes it an easy base for exploring the Cheshire countryside around Chester.

When is a sandwich not a sandwich? When it's priced as a sandwich but turns out to be something far, far better. Here I tell you how one elevated dish absolutely made my day and experience at The Pheasant! So I ordered the prawn and crayfish sandwich that was in fact a miniature platter on a normal plate. It was beautifully presented and it was clear someone had spent time and thoughtful consideration to ensure all the elements on the plate where so well positioned, they almost danced before me on my eyes. On the plate we had that massive prawn, it's spindly legs had been removed and the head had been detached and replaced back on the body, ensuring no brain fluid ejected onto my white shirt. Another thoughtful touch. Adjacent was on the sourdough, for this is billed as a sandwich remember, was the mound of tasty crayfish, and on the other slice, a hunk of salmon with jet black, glossy fish roe. All of this was complimented by the salad and soused cucumber. It was a memorable dish and all served courteously and professionally. The Pheasant as you probably know sits on the side of a hill with sweeping views of the Cheshire plain. The management and staff have clearly got this place expertly nailed down, and it's a credit to the whole team how consistently good they've been recently over several visits. AAA+++

Spent an afternoon here whilst down in Cheshire visiting from Scotland. Went for a meal on the recommendation of family who live nearby. We were very impressed. What a beautiful place, both inside and out, with a stunning view that goes on for miles. We were lucky with the hot weather so sat in the garden area and enjoyed the delicious food. A very memorable time - we will definitely return at some point.

Great visit to the pheasant inn! We recently visited to celebrate after getting married and was a great getaway. Location was brilliant with amazing views, the staff and atmosphere were extremely friendly. Very dog friendly! Room was nice but potentially a tiny bit small for us two and the dog! You must also try the food here as it was one of the best steak pies I've ever had and the breakfast in the morning was 10/10. Would return!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Pheasant on a recent trip to Chester for my Daughters 21st Birthday. We stayed at Peckforton Castle, however we fancied a real Roast dinner so took a short drive out to this lovely pub. The location was beautiful! We arrived at 7pm and got to watch the sun set over the lovely view from outside. Although we did not stay in one of the rooms at The Pheasant I can only presume they were great if the rest of the pub is anything to go by. The service was fantastic! Our waitress was very accommodating and I was pleased to know they they were able to meet my dietary requirements. I have had gastric sleeve surgery and I also do not eat meat. They allowed me to order a children's size Sunday roast and although a children's meal does not usually include the nut roas, I was able to order this to meet my requirements. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. I would 100% return if I visited Chester again and highly recommend! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
