About Tanpits Cider Farm Caravan and Camping Park

A Somerset site with 'cider farm' in the name – and the means to buy scrumpy on site from two spacious apple orchards? Even more excellent. Lashings of Henry's Farmhouse Scrumpy await at Tanpits, perhaps to crack open on arrival while firing up the barbecue for a post-sunset supper under the Somerset stars.

Wild peacocks, ducks, geese, guinea fowl and chickens all wander this friendly and peaceful little farm site, with squirrels scampering about too. The farm sits right beside the historic Bridgwater and Taunton Canal – it's about 40 minutes' walk or 15 minutes by bike via the handsomely scenic towpath into the old town of Taunton. Closer still, tasty pub food and ales are a five-minute stroll away, and a retail centre with shops and cinema is within easy walking distance.

Facilities include hot showers, toilets, launderette and washing-up area, plus a play area for kids – possibly best to distract them while the grownups sort out that hefty purchase of Somerset farm scrumpy.

Booked for a short break away from the stresses of everything going on but wanted to stay local could see on photos that the van was slightly older style but was definitely a bit more run down then expect was okay when we turned up but definitely wasn't as clean as as they make out in the description. We did bring this up to the owners on the site and they were absolutely spot on on how they delt with the matter and were more than satisfied with the outcome on what they did for us. Few things to note is that there is no wifi here and signal is hit and miss also the pecocks there are very noisy and like to shout. If there were some vans put on the site then would visit again or if we got a motorhome to use a pitch avaliable there

We walked around as we thought the cider shop was open to the public and wanted to have a look at the animals. Unfortunately, the man there didn’t even offer a basic hello, and when we got near his “workshop” and the campsite, he was extremely rude. If that’s how he speaks to two harmless dog walkers, I’d hate to think how paying guests are treated.

I feel I’m missing something on reading 5 star reviews about this site. We stayed here for 2 nights. It’s in a great location and it’s nice to be in and around the orchard but that’s about all that’s good. At check in, you stand outside next to a wall of wood and Perspex - ring a bell and someone attends. You then stand around in silence for 10 mins wondering what’s going on….they are waiting for their laptop to boot up. It’s a good job it wasn’t raining as you would get soaked, but after countless years of caravanning, it’s the oddest check in we have ever experienced. The pitch is ok, small bit of gravel and grass but did the job. The big disappointment is the toilet block. It’s pretty grim. Was dirty and full of cobwebs. Freezing cold as door is permanently left open. If you use the toilet or shower be prepared to be in darkness as the lights turn off after 5 minutes. Although you won’t be in the tiny shower for long as you have to press a button every 10 seconds to keep the small flow of water going…. All in all, Taunton is a nice town and we will be back….but will maybe look for a more welcoming and cleaner site next time.
