About The Greyhound Inn

Hearty portions and a proper Sunday roast are what The Greyhound Inn does best, served in a restaurant and bar warmed by log fires in Staple Fitzpaine, near Taunton. The kitchen also caters for children, and there's outdoor seating in the garden for milder days, plus breakfast served each morning for those staying over.

Rooms are en-suite and kept clean and comfortable, with family rooms available and drinks available in-room for a nightcap. Free WiFi runs throughout, and practical extras such as meeting rooms and 24 hour reception make it as suited to a working stopover as a weekend away. What an amazing, fabulous pub. My husband and I have been travelling around for seven days booking in at old pubs and coaching inns. The Greyhound was a gem of a find. £130 bed and breakfast. The pub was in an idyllic spot in a village called Staple Fitzpain neat Taunton. The staff were great and our room was a Double with en-suite. We were pleased to see we had a fridge as it was really hot. We had a brass bedstead and a really comfortable bed with spotless bedding. Our room was large and we had a fabulous bathroom with a large window and it was delightful to lie in the bath with the breeze through the window. There was also a really good shower. The pub had the original sash windows but they had cleverly fitted secondary glazing. Our plan was to also eat in the pubs as well. The evening meal was delicious. Lots of choice on the menu. The both had fish & chips and it was really tasty. All the staff were great and the pub had a great atmosphere. Our room was on the front of the pub and we had a lovely view of a corn field. There was some road noise but nothing to bother us. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice and all freshly cooked. The lady serving was lovely. My husband had porridge which was really good. I had full English and it had everything and was fabulous. It was an excellent stay and we would stay again.

Just had an amazing lunch here at The Greyhound with the family. Service was impeccable; super friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Great menu offering something for everyone, we had a steak, a fish and chips, a pork belly and a venison burger, we all loved what we had ordered. Portions are really generous and the food is genuine, piping hot and nicely presented. My venison burger was sublime. Really some of the very best in Somerset. Easy parking so well worth making it a destination. None of us had room for desert but definitely eager to try one next time. Great experience.

We visited The Greyhound for the first time this week and will definitely be back. It's a lovely country pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the food was good, and the service was friendly. It's also dog-friendly, which is a big plus for us. A great find and somewhere we're looking forward to visiting again.

Came for a roast dinner as The Greyhound is one of the only local places to get a Sunday roast in the evening not just for lunch. Food was absolutely fantastic, probably the best plated roast my wife and I have ever had. Not the cheapest around, but you get what you pay for and I don’t mind paying for clearly good quality food.
