About Thornbury Castle
Thornbury Castle is the kind of place best suited to couples celebrating an occasion, or anyone wanting a slower, indulgent break rather than a city-hopping trip. This is a real castle turned into a 26-room hotel in Thornbury, Gloucestershire, within reach of Bristol, and it trades on genuine historic atmosphere rather than a themed version of one.
Rooms are decorated to a high standard, many carrying the character of the building's age while offering modern comforts such as air conditioning and free WiFi. The restaurant is a particular strength, with tasting menus and a proper full English breakfast among the highlights, and there's a bar and snack bar for less formal moments. Guests also have use of an indoor swimming pool, a gym, and a garden that forms part of the castle's well-kept grounds.
Staff are consistently described as warm and attentive, adding to the sense of occasion rather than detracting from it. Pets are welcome, free on-site parking is available, and concierge and business services are on hand for those who need them. It's a fitting base for exploring the surrounding Gloucestershire countryside, with pubs and restaurants nearby for evenings spent outside the castle walls.

What guests say
First, I do suggest you go to this hotel. I gave it a 4, which is in some ways low because I do have feedback. The hotel and grounds are beautiful! I loved it! The staff is also great. I have gone to many hotels of this sort and here are a few things I suggest. The breakfast is nice, but I found comparable hotels to have a better breakfast. The main difference is that the others had a very nice breakfast buffet which was definitely a notch above this breakfast. Also, in some others I was allowed outside seating for breakfast, which was no easier than it would have been for you. They catered to my preference and that would have been nice if you would have done that as well. Not that hard. Your garden is wonderful, but you really need to water your plants. They are literally dying right in front of your guests. You charge $5 for bike rental. That felt like nickel and diming your guests. No other hotel I stayed at did this. My room was great, but there was too much furniture, barely room to walk. Besides the bed, 2 chairs and a table, a desk, night stands, a vanity table, and another chair. There just isn't room for all of that furniture, and space to walk and put down luggage. Very nice, but just too much of it. a little floor space would visually make the room feel much bigger. Lovely place, and a few improvements would bring it up to a 5. Thank you and great staff.

My husband and I enjoyed an absolutely wonderful stay at Thornbury Castle in May. Every moment of our stay was lovely. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the castle and grounds were gorgeous, our room was huge and well-appointed (with a great bathroom, too -- spacious and clean). The main dining room and library both served excellent dinners. The breakfast in the morning was delicious (loved that it was cooked to order and not a buffet like so many other hotels do! This was much classier.). The hotel is an easy walk to the high street, so on nights when we didn't eat in the castle, we could easily walk to nearby restaurants. All in all, we had a wonderful visit -- staying in a historic house is always fun, but staying in a castle is truly magical. We can't wait to return to Thornbury Castle!

An unforgettable stay at a stunning 15th-century castle From the moment we arrived, Thornbury Castle took our breath away. It's small, intimate, and wonderfully quiet; which made the whole experience feel personal and special. The way they've preserved and maintained this historic property is genuinely incredible; you can feel the centuries of history while still enjoying beautifully renovated, spotless bathrooms and thoughtful touches throughout. We booked the Super Deluxe room and it was worth every penny. Gorgeous & immaculate. My husband had the brilliant idea to bring costumes, and it turned out to be the best decision of the whole trip. Wandering the gardens and grounds in full costume, playing croquet, exploring the vegetable garden, and tucking into cozy nooks around the castle (including the library!) made for a truly magical and hilarious memory we'll treasure forever. The course meal did not disappoint. Delicious food and wonderful service from start to finish, including a lovely breakfast the next morning. Everything felt very reasonably priced for the level of experience you get. A special thank you to the front desk, I wish I could remember her name, but she was an absolute gem, so warm and kind, and even took photos of us together so we'd have proof of our castle cosplay glory! HIGHLY RECOMMEND playing the Bridgerton Playlist on repeat whilst walking the grounds and relaxing in your chambers! We also ran into a hiccup with a third-party booking service, and the team went above and beyond to sort it out and keep our experience seamless. Thank you to the entire team at Thornbury Castle for such a magical, memorable stay. We'll be back!✨

Wow what an amazing place. We stayed here overnight for a special surprise birthday treat for my husband. From the moment we walked in till it was time to leave, we both felt totally relaxed. The reception team and waiting staff were very knowledgeable/attentive and everyone wished him happy birthday! The gardens are beautiful. Food was very good, we went for the lighter dining experience rather than a full 3 courses. It was perfect and so was the full English breakfast. Rooms were exceptionally comfortable and had everything you could possibly want. You can also dress up in authentic clothes through reception in order to feel like a real king/queen!! *make sure to do the castle history tour* **other activities somewhat expensive**
