Eventide

Eventide is reached by climbing 40 traditional stone steps up from street level to this two-bedroom cottage perched on a hillside in Brixham. The elevated position rewards the climb: from the sitting room you look out over the town towards glimpses of the sea, and at night you can hear the bells of All Saints Church, which sits just behind the property. The cottage sleeps four across a double on the second floor and two singles on the first, with a games room and day bed on the upper level, making it naturally suited to families who don't mind stairs.

The layout spreads across three storeys. Ground level holds the main living space—a light sitting room that opens to a kitchen and dining area where you can cook properly, with an oven, hob, microwave and washing machine included. A porch at the entrance is useful for storing bags and boots. The first-floor wet room has a walk-in shower. Gas heating, electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are all covered; there's a welcome pack too. One small dog is welcome, though children and pets need supervising near the seven garden steps and the front drop. On-road parking is free; a public car park is nearby at cost.

The cottage sits within a mile of the coast and Brixham's working harbour, with its mix of independent shops, restaurants and bars. All Saints Church stands moments away, and Berry Head Nature Reserve is accessible for walks.

Having been huge fans of James & Bev's restaurant back in Shropshire, we simply had to make a detour on our way to Cornwall to experience Eventide on the Quay. These two are true masters of their craft. Bev and her team provide the warmest and most attentive service, and James is simply a culinary magician. The restaurant itself has a really lovely ambience and beautiful views of the harbour. Wonderful complimentary homemade breads arrived whilst we perused the menus. My husband, son and I went fish-based with our choices. But we were also tempted by many other dishes on the menu. We thought, whilst in Brixham, it doesn't get fresher than this. And it certainly doesn't; everything was so delicious, and we even found room for dessert - lemon tart, tiramisu and a crème caramel - all so, so good. Thank you, James & Bev. We enjoyed our evening immensely and will never be able to head to Cornwall without a little detour to see you in the future. See you soon 😉🍷

Absolutely stunning food as always. We have known Bev and James since their very popular restaurant in Ludlow. Myself and my family visited Eventide during half term and the food is amazing. Well worth the 4hr drive. Bev, James we wish you all the success in the future and we will be back.

Fantastic food, the best garlic mushrooms we've had in years. The mains were also outstanding. Great to have a new local eatery that changes its menu regularly too. We will be back!
