About Abbey Lawn Hotel

A proper cooked breakfast and a restaurant menu with good vegetarian choices set the tone at Abbey Lawn Hotel, a 60-room property on Scarborough Road in Torquay. There's a bar for evening drinks, outdoor seating and a garden for warmer days, and packed lunches or kids' meals can be arranged for those out exploring the English Riviera during the day.

Rooms are spacious and come with en-suite bathrooms, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children, though some rooms show their age and could do with updating. A lift makes getting around easy, and extras such as concierge services, luggage storage and drinks in the room add convenience. Guests regularly mention the staff as attentive and a key part of the welcoming atmosphere.

There's an indoor swimming pool on site for a swim whatever the weather, alongside a picnic area for a change of scene. Beyond the hotel, the surrounding area offers golf, fishing, watersports, cycling and walking routes, plus nearby pubs and restaurants for evenings out. Free on-site parking makes it a straightforward base for touring the coast.

Came here on a Shearings Holiday Very clean hotel and got a lovely room with a sea view. There was a lack of information about how to gey into Torquay which was a bit disappointing. Breakfast and Dinner times very regimental. Food was limited but mostly edible. Toast too hard so were the vegetables and tea stewed Loved the entertainment every evening Would come here again

I travelled to this hotel on a Daish's tour last year for the Paignton Air Show. I was so impressed that I booked again. Unfortunately I was disappointed this year (8-13 May 2026). The lovely manageress has gone. They must also have a new chef. The food options were poorer and I did not think the cooking was very good. I was lucky to get a premium room on my first booking, but this time I got a very small single with furniture that looked as old as me. I did have a bath but the rubber mat was mouldy on the underside. The restaurant staff were good, but I did not feel particularly welcome this time. Buses to harbour, Paignton, Brixham run regularly and are no more than a 6 minute walk downhill. I managed to get to Agatha Christie's Greenway and Buckfast Abbey by public transport. I'm not booking this one again, I went on to the Barrowfield, Daish's hotel in Newquay and the standard was far better.

Nice friendly hotel catering largely, I think, to coach parties. We went with a walking group. Pool small but nice. Magician one night was excellent.
