Thimble Cottage

Photo: Thimble Cottage

Thimble Cottage works well for couples after a break on the North Devon coast. This converted barn sits on its own grounds in a wooded valley near Hartland, a remote village in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The single bedroom contains a super kingsize bed, and there's a bathroom with bath and shower. Upstairs, an open-plan living and dining space has a 55" smart TV, while the kitchen is equipped for real cooking—electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave, and a coffee machine with initial pods provided. Essentials including wi-fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all covered.

The setting appeals to walkers: the rugged cliff-top coastline sits two and a half miles away, with footpaths and local walks close by. Clovelly's cobbled streets and harbour are easily reached, and Hartland itself has three pubs plus a well-regarded restaurant within a short walk. A post office, village store, café, and independent shops are a quarter-mile away; larger supermarkets are in Bideford and Bude. The garden is large and enclosed with a patio and gas barbecue, and there's private parking for two cars. One well-behaved pet is welcome, and the owners provide a doggy pack. Note that the garden has steps, and the access lane is steep and narrow.
