Farm campsite in the Mendip Hills, around seven miles from Wells
About Oakhill Camping and Caravanning
Tucked into a working farm on the edge of the Mendip Hills, Oakhill Camping and Caravanning offers around fifteen pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes—grass with optional hook-up or dedicated hardstanding—plus two self-catering cabins. The facilities cover the basics: shared toilet and shower block, communal kitchen, washing-up area and a small honesty shop, with hireable fire pits and logs for proper campfire evenings. Dogs are welcome, with two fields for walks and footpaths leading straight into the surrounding countryside.
It's positioned roughly seven miles from Wells, making it a solid base for exploring the cathedral city, Cheddar Gorge and the wider Mendips, with Longleat within reasonable driving distance. The farm setting and 4.8 rating suggest a friendly, low-key atmosphere. Open late March to late October.

What visitors say
We’ve just come back from a brilliant stay at this campsite and it’s exactly what you want for a relaxed, family-friendly break. The whole place has such a lovely, easygoing vibe—plenty of space for kids to run around and play, but still calm enough for the adults to actually switch off. The facilities were spot on—really clean, well looked after, and everything just worked (which isn’t always a given with campsites!). Hot showers, tidy grounds, and nothing felt neglected. One of the best bits was the location. It feels nicely tucked away and peaceful, but there’s a great pub just a short walk away which was perfect for an easy meal and a drink without having to drive. Absolute win. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they genuinely care about keeping the place nice. All in all, it’s one of those places that just gets the balance right—family-friendly without being chaotic. We’ll definitely be back.

Just returned from a 3 day break and what a gem of a site. Charlotte the owner couldn't have been more welcoming. She said we could use the field beside the pitches to let our dog have a run which is such a bonus and hard to find on some sites. Lovely walk across the fields to the little Village cafe and easy walk to the Pub. Access for us with 8 foot wide Caravan wasn't an issue just the last part of the lane a litte tight but we didn't have any traffic issues. Will definatley go back as great location for all main attractions.

Nice out of the way location which was very quiet during our stay. Pitch was level and well kept. Amenities on-site cover everything we needed, including clean toilets and showers, a wash room etc. Very friendly and helpful owners too. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area, we had a lovely stay and would come back.
