Thyme is part of Sherrill Farm, a cluster of 13 self-catering cottages built from original barns and the farmhouse itself, three centuries old. The setting is 16 acres of Devon farmland between Tavistock and Launceston, close enough to Dartmoor for day trips but far enough away to feel properly remote. Everything is arranged around a central courtyard; Thyme occupies first-floor space in one of the converted buildings, with its own entrance a few steps away.

Inside is a single bedroom with a four-poster double bed, a bathroom with bath and shower, and an open-plan living area that combines kitchen, dining and sitting space. The kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine, so you can cook as simply or ambitiously as you want. Freeview TV, Wi-Fi, bed linen and heating are all provided; you arrive after 3.30pm and depart before 10am. One car space is reserved for your use.

The appeal beyond the cottage itself lies in the shared facilities: an indoor heated swimming pool (12m by 6m, open from 8.30am to 9pm year-round), a hot tub, a small gym, games room with table tennis and table football, an indoor skittle alley, tennis court, and children's play area. There's fishing available too, with rod hire on site. One dog is welcome. No smoking indoors.

We had 2 of the properties as we were a family of 12. This is a lovely property with loads of activities on site from the pool and games room to the fishing lake. The whole family loved the houses and facilities with my nephews really enjoying the opportunity to fish in the peaceful privet lake. The houses are a 15 minute drive to the nearest town with plenty of shops and an all week craft type market. Lots to do within 20-30 minutes drive so you won't get bored.

We came to get away from It all and was not disappointed, we stayed in Great Meadow a very quiet tranquil cottage with a massive wood burner and endless supply of logs, there is also electric heating if fire is not your thing, also washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and large fridge freezer, WiFi 6 was excellent and there was Freeview and a Roku box available. I would definitely stay here again & highly recommend anyone give it a try for a quiet retreat 👌🏻

Second time staying at Sherrill Farm. The farm itself in perfectly situated on the Cornwall/Devon border making travel to so many beautiful places easy. Even though youre only a few miles from Launceston with it's useful amenities, it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, solid 5* for location. The cottage we stayed in ( Fennel) was very spacious & clean, with all the mod cons needed for a week's stay. Original stonework & beams adds to the charm of the place. The only slight down is the fact its looking a little tired, our two stays were spaced 9 years apart & other than a different TV, nothing had changed in that time (from recollection) For on site activities theres a lovely little circular walk around the lake, ideal for stroll with dog. The tennis court wasn't great, looks like it hasn't been maintained in a while. One of the main selling points to us was the swimming pool, last time we visited we had some great fun there, ideal for those rainy days with kids. This time, although we enjoyed the pool, we did have an issue with being accompanied by little grass snakes in the water! This happened multiple times and whilst I appreciate that out in the countryside these things can happen, probably worth pointing out to anyone with a fear of snakes! There is also a games room with pool table, skittles & table tennis. Great idea, but again, very tired & poorly maintainedm The owner was really friendly, his dog Scruffy was always a regular visitor to our cottage, lovely old dog. I would definitely recommend a stay here, first time visit i gave 5 stars and although we had a really nice stay, I would reduce slightly due to the place needing a bit of work to bring it back up to speed. Overall, very good value for money, compared to similar cottages in the region, so I can excuse these minor issues, but thought worthwhile to point out that with a little face lift it would be perfect.

Really nice holiday cottage. We stayed in "fennel" only downside I would say, the beds definitely need a new mattress. The upstairs, double, I slept in was quite lumpy. Other than that, we all had a fantastic stay. There's a pool and games room. Gym is small and not much in it. One of the treadmills doesn't work. The little dog scruffy is so cute. He lives at the farm and comes in to visit if you leave the door open.
