The Wheelhouse

The Wheelhouse is a converted watermill at the end of a private track near Linlithgow Bridge, with the River Avon running through its grounds. The building spans three floors and sleeps four across two double bedrooms, each 4ft 6in beds, with two bathrooms. A utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer; the kitchen is equipped for self-catering with an electric cooker and microwave; there's a separate dining room and living room with Freesat and DVD player.

The main draw is the setting. Two verandahs overlook the river, one accessible directly from a bedroom, and there's a private outdoor hot tub for soaking while watching the water. The grounds include free trout fishing and garden furniture. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Parking is on site, and one dog stays free. The river in the garden is unfenced, so this matters if you have young children.

Linlithgow town centre is 4 miles away; Edinburgh is a 25-mile drive or a train journey from Linlithgow station, with services every 15 minutes. No smoking inside.
