Esthwaite Water lies a few minutes' walk from Little Esthwaite Cottage, which stands in the village near Ambleside. The lake draws walkers, fishermen and birdwatchers—ospreys have been spotted fishing here in recent summers—and you can wander directly from the property along the water's edge. The surrounding countryside frames views towards Langdale Pikes, Old Man of Coniston, Wetherlam and Crinkle Crags. Local attractions include Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's former home, and the village pub.

The cottage is a single-storey property with everything on the ground floor: a living room with a wood-burning stove, a kitchen/dining room with electric cooking and a washing machine, a double bedroom, and an ensuite shower room. An enclosed patio overlooks the fields toward the water; there is also a shared garden with lawns and mature borders. One well-behaved dog stays free, and parking for one car is on site. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included, along with initial fuel for the stove. Children under ten are not accommodated.

The cottage is yours alone—no other guests on the property. It suits couples and single travellers, particularly those wanting walking access to the lake and the chance to explore the fells nearby without needing to drive everywhere.

Great location and well kept. Downside was the bowls / plates weren’t clean when we arrived, there is no recycling which seemed strange. Good place to rent and would recommend

This is the third time we’ve stayed here - it’s a cozy small apartment with fantastic views. A balcony and small garden is great for sunny weather. Enjoyed the walk amongst the lambs to the lake edge to watch sunset. Apartment has all been refurbished to a high standard. This is a great place for walk up and down to Windermere ferry across to Bowness. Pub in village too. No bus route at Sawrey - excellent bus service to all the lakes from Hawkshead. Cathy the owner is friendly and helpful. We will return. PS since posting this review the owner Cathy has informed us that she has upgraded the Wi-Fi system- therefore excellent service.

Parents stayed here July 22 and I visited for a few hours. Rustic studio apartment, whilst quite small, it is well equipped and in a great location for those wanting a base to explore the lakes! Parents met the owner who they said was lovely, and very helpful lending them a dog bowl and extendable lead, as they had forgotten theirs! Only downfall was the WIFI didn’t really work well and there’s very little mobile signal. Not a major issue for my parents, more an inconvenience when wanting to search for places to visit, opening times etc. Could be an issue for those who may be needing to do online work whilst away.

Needs updating and looking very tired at the minute. Could have been cleaned a lot better for our arrival. Wont be returning anytime soon. The area is lovely and the local pub is excellent
