The Gatehouse at Beckfoot Hall

Westmorland and Furness

View on Google Maps

Kirkby Stephen sits at a crossroads for walkers and cyclists. The Pennine Way runs nearby; the Coast to Coast passes through the market town itself, 1½ miles away; and the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are each within an hour's drive. From there, Ullswater, Wensleydale, Swaledale and Teesdale are all reachable for a day out. The Settle-Carlisle Railway, Tan Hill pub and several castles are scattered across the region. Local options include fishing on the River Eden, golf and pony trekking.

The Gatehouse at Beckfoot Hall is a Grade II listed property, entirely on the ground floor, with two bedrooms—a kingsize and a double—and one shower room. The open-plan living space combines a sitting area with a woodburner, dining space and kitchen equipped for proper cooking. A utility room has a washing machine. Biomass heating and hot water are included, along with wi-fi, bed linen, towels and fuel for the fire. The enclosed garden has seating and furniture; private parking fits two cars.

This suits couples, friends or small families wanting a countryside base without stairs or fuss. Children under three are not suitable for this property owing to a pond 55 yards away. No smoking indoors.
