About Loxton Hill Wild Camping

At the westernmost ridge of the Mendip Hills National Landscape, Loxton Hill Wild Camping offers something genuinely remote: no vehicle access, no formal pitches, just you and the Somerset sky. Park in Loxton village and walk half an hour along the West Mendip Way to reach this pop-up site, where groups can spread out across the hilltop with complete privacy and sweeping views over the Somerset Levels to the Bristol Channel beyond.

This is proper wild camping – bring everything in, from drinking water to firepits, and set up wherever takes your fancy (though expect friendly competition for the sunset spots). Facilities are deliberately minimal: composting and portable loos, a washing-up area, and shower available, but the appeal here is the peace and the scenery. Those craving creature comforts after a few days under canvas will find a spa at the local hotel ten minutes away, while excellent pubs at Godney and Pilton are both around 40 minutes' drive – a worthy pilgrimage after earning your views.

Kerry

Absolutely beautiful campsite with breathtaking views. Very well maintained and the facilities are in very good order - especially considering this is a working farm and the campsite is marketed as wild camping. Nathan the owner is incredibly friendly but also gives you space to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the site. The walk to the campsite is very doable and enjoyable- especially on a nice day and the walk from the village of Hutton is a great way to burn off a Sunday roast at the local pub. Very reasonable check out time of 2pm- which is handy if you have overslept. All in all a wonderful campsite and we are already making plans for another stay. Thank you Nathan.
