About Shiplate Farm Fishery
Set at the foot of the Mendip Hills with sweeping views over Brent Knoll and the Somerset Levels, Shiplate Farm Fishery is a peaceful, tiny site (just a handful of pitches) ideal for anglers and walkers alike. The working fishery offers day tickets for four well-stocked lakes plus access to an unspoilt stretch of the River Axe – perfect whether you're a match fisherman, carp specialist or complete beginner. Non-anglers can stride straight onto the celebrated Mendip Way or explore quiet local cycling lanes.
Facilities are straightforward but well-kept: electric hook-ups on level gravel hardstanding, a clean shower block, motorhome services and free wifi. The site can feel a touch basic if you're after extensive facilities, but the tranquil lakeside setting and friendly welcome more than compensate. Bleadon village (five minutes' drive) has pubs, restaurants and a farm shop; Weston-super-Mare is 20 minutes for bigger supermarkets and the seaside.

What visitors say
I stayed here in a campervan for a week. I don’t fish, I just thought it looked like a cute place. I live in my van and see lots of campsites and this is BY FAR the most relaxing, cosy, and peaceful place I’ve been to. I’ve made friends with the locals, climbed the nearby hills, sampled the cafes, and explored the lakes - I will absolutely be back again. On a practical note, (very) clean showers and toilets, hot water, well provisioned kitchen with kettle, microwave, and fridge, easy to get to, easy to find, clear check-in instructions, warm welcome, and friendly owners. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Shiplate. (Except that maybe the geese can be a bit grumpy.. but I’ve never met a friendly goose anyway.)

We brought our campervan to stay at Shiplate Farm & Fishery for a couple of nights, and having visited many campsites over the years, we can honestly say we’ve never felt so genuinely welcome. Sue and her team were incredibly friendly and generous with their time, making us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived. The farm and fishery are beautifully maintained - immaculate, peaceful, and truly a joy to be in. There’s a real sense of calm the minute you step onto the site. To top it all off, there are some lovely animals around - friendly birds, lambs, goats, and even alpacas, which really adds something special to the whole experience. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

Wow what can I say? What a venue! From start to finish the best hosts to welcome you to the Shiplate farm/fishery. 2 jam packed days of fishing, the rods literally never stopped. We were exhausted! Superb facilities, very clean and tidy and views to die for. A lovely local little pub with good quality food is just down the road too. I would describe this place as a hidden sanctuary and can’t wait to return.
